2. Product Overview

3. Setup
3.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove all packaging materials. Ensure all components listed in Section 2.1 are present and undamaged.
3.2 Initial Charge
Before first use, fully charge the shaver. This typically takes about 1 hour and provides up to 60 minutes of shaving time.
- Insert the small plug of the adapter into the charging socket of the shaver.
- Plug the adapter into a wall outlet.
- The battery indicator on the display will show the charging progress. When fully charged, the indicator will show a full battery icon.
4. Charging the Shaver
The shaver is equipped with a powerful Li-ion battery. A full charge provides approximately 60 minutes of cordless shaving. A 5-minute quick charge provides enough power for one shave.
4.1 Battery Indicators
- Charging: The battery indicator flashes white.
- Fully Charged: The battery indicator lights up continuously white.
- Low Battery: The battery indicator flashes orange.
4.2 Charging Procedure
- Ensure the shaver is switched off.
- Connect the adapter to the shaver and then to a power outlet.
- Allow the shaver to charge until the battery indicator shows a full charge.
5. Operating the Shaver
The Philips Shaver Series 5000 S5884/50 can be used for both wet and dry shaving.
5.1 Dry Shaving
- Ensure your face is clean and dry.
- Press the power button to switch on the shaver.
- Move the shaving heads in small, circular motions over your skin.
- Stretch your skin with your free hand to make the hairs stand upright.
- After shaving, press the power button to switch off the shaver.
5.2 Wet Shaving
- Wet your face with water.
- Apply shaving foam or gel to your skin.
- Press the power button to switch on the shaver.
- Move the shaving heads in small, circular motions over your skin.
- Rinse the shaving heads under running water during shaving to prevent clogging.
- After shaving, rinse your face and the shaver thoroughly.
5.3 SkinIQ Technology
The shaver is equipped with SkinIQ technology, which senses your hair density and adapts the cutting power for a more personalized and comfortable shave. This feature operates automatically during use.
5.4 Travel Lock
To prevent the shaver from accidentally switching on during travel, activate the travel lock:
- Activate: Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds. The travel lock symbol will illuminate on the display.
- Deactivate: Press and hold the power button for 3 seconds. The travel lock symbol will turn off.
6. Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning ensures optimal shaving performance and extends the lifespan of your shaver.
6.1 Daily Cleaning (Quick Clean)
- Switch off the shaver.
- Press the release button to open the shaving unit.
- Rinse the shaving unit under warm running water for at least 30 seconds.
- Shake off excess water and close the shaving unit.
6.2 Thorough Cleaning
Perform a thorough cleaning weekly or when the cleaning reminder symbol illuminates.
- Switch off the shaver.
- Press the release button and open the shaving unit.
- Pull the shaving unit off the shaver.
- Turn the retaining ring counter-clockwise to remove it.
- Remove the shaving heads from the shaving unit. Note: Do not mix up the cutters and guards, as they are a matched set.
- Rinse the shaving heads and the shaving unit thoroughly under warm running water.
- Allow all parts to air dry completely before reassembling.
- Reassemble the shaving heads, ensuring each cutter is placed back into its original guard.
- Place the retaining ring back and turn it clockwise to secure.
- Attach the shaving unit back onto the shaver.
6.3 Replacing Shaving Heads
For optimal performance, replace the shaving heads every 12 months. Replacement heads are available under model SH71.
- Follow the steps for thorough cleaning (Section 6.2) to remove the old shaving heads.
- Insert the new shaving heads into the shaving unit, ensuring the cutters and guards are correctly matched.
- Reassemble the retaining ring and shaving unit.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your shaver, refer to the table below for common problems and solutions.
