4. Initial Setup

4.1. Charging the Battery

Before first use, fully charge the included battery pack using the provided charger. Insert the battery into the charger and connect the charger to a power outlet. The charging indicator will show the charging status.

4.2. Inserting the Battery and Memory Card

Open the battery/card compartment cover located at the bottom of the camera. Insert the charged battery with the correct orientation. Insert an SD memory card (UHS-II recommended for optimal performance) into one of the two available slots until it clicks into place. Close the cover securely.

4.3. Attaching the Lens

Align the white index mark on the lens with the white index mark on the camera's lens mount. Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place. To remove the lens, press the lens release button and rotate the lens counter-clockwise.

5. Operating the Camera

5.1. Power On/Off

To power on the camera, slide the power switch located on the top plate. To power off, slide the switch again.

5.2. Basic Shooting Modes

The mode dial on the top of the camera allows you to select various shooting modes:

  • P (Program AE): The camera automatically sets the aperture and shutter speed.
  • A (Aperture Priority AE): You set the aperture, and the camera sets the shutter speed.
  • S (Shutter Priority AE): You set the shutter speed, and the camera sets the aperture.
  • M (Manual Exposure): You set both aperture and shutter speed.
  • Custom Modes (C1, C2, C3): Save your preferred settings for quick recall.

5.3. Autofocus System

The G9II features a Phase Hybrid AF system with 779 phase-detection points for rapid and accurate focusing. AI-powered recognition technology allows for real-time tracking of subjects, including humans, animals, vehicles, and motorcycles.

5.4. Image Stabilization

6. Video Recording

  • 4K 60p 10-Bit: Record DCI 4K and UHD 4K video at 60 frames per second with 10-bit color depth.
  • C4K/4K 120p: Achieve high-frame-rate video for slow-motion effects.
  • V-Log: Utilize V-Log for a flat color profile, maximizing dynamic range for professional color grading.
  • ProRes 422 HQ: Record high-quality ProRes 422 HQ and 10-bit 4:2:2 All-Intra directly to an external SSD via USB-C.
  • Real-time LUT: Apply custom LUTs during recording for on-set monitoring and simplified post-production.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Cleaning the Camera

  • Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the camera body.
  • For the lens, use a lens brush to remove dust, then a lens cloth with lens cleaning fluid if necessary.
  • Avoid touching the sensor directly. If sensor cleaning is required, use a specialized sensor cleaning kit or consult a professional.

7.2. Storage

When not in use, store the camera in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove the battery if storing for extended periods.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Camera does not power on: Ensure the battery is fully charged and correctly inserted.
  • Images are blurry: Check focus settings, ensure sufficient lighting, and verify image stabilization is active if shooting handheld.
  • Memory card error: Ensure the memory card is correctly inserted and not full. Try formatting the card (this will erase all data).
  • Overheating: Prolonged video recording, especially in high resolutions or warm environments, may cause the camera to overheat. Allow the camera to cool down.
