Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when performing maintenance on your motorcycle. Failure to follow safety precautions can result in injury or damage to the vehicle.

  • Ensure the motorcycle is on a stable, level surface using a center stand or appropriate lift.
  • Allow the engine to cool completely before starting work to prevent burns from hot oil or engine components.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including gloves and eye protection.
  • Dispose of used oil and filters responsibly according to local environmental regulations. Do not pour used oil down drains or onto the ground.
  • Keep a fire extinguisher nearby when working with flammable liquids.

Setup and Preparation

Before beginning the oil change, ensure you have the following tools and conditions:

  • Appropriate wrenches/sockets for drain plugs and filter covers.
  • Torque wrench for proper re-tightening.
  • Oil drain pan with sufficient capacity (at least 6 quarts).
  • Clean rags or shop towels.
  • Motorcycle positioned on a level surface, preferably on a center stand.
  • Engine warmed up slightly (run for 5-10 minutes) to allow oil to flow easily, then shut off and allow to cool for 15-20 minutes before draining.

Operating Instructions: Oil Change Procedure

Follow these steps carefully for a complete oil and filter change:

  1. Locate Drain Plugs: Identify the main engine oil drain plug and the DCT oil drain plug. Consult your motorcycle's service manual for exact locations.
  2. Drain Engine Oil: Place the drain pan beneath the engine oil drain plug. Remove the plug and allow all engine oil to drain completely. Replace the old crush washer with one of the new 12MM crush washers provided in the kit. Reinstall the drain plug and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  3. Drain DCT Oil: Move the drain pan to the DCT oil drain plug. Remove the plug and allow the DCT oil to drain. Replace the old crush washer with a new 12MM crush washer. Reinstall the drain plug and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  4. Replace Engine Oil Filter: Locate and remove the main engine oil filter (15410-MFJ-D02). Ensure no old gasket material remains on the engine. Apply a thin film of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new filter. Install the new filter and tighten according to manufacturer specifications (typically hand-tight plus a quarter to half turn, or specific torque).
  5. Replace DCT Oil Filter: Locate the DCT oil filter cover. Remove the bolts and the cover. Carefully remove the old DCT oil filter (15412-MGS-D21) and the old O-ring. Install the new DCT oil filter and the new O-ring (91302-PA9-003) provided in the kit. Ensure the O-ring is properly seated. Reinstall the cover and tighten the bolts to the specified torque, using a new 12MM crush washer on the cover bolt if applicable.
  6. Refill Engine Oil: Using the provided paper funnel, slowly add approximately 4 quarts of the new 10W30 GN4 Motorcycle Oil into the engine oil fill opening.
  7. Refill DCT Oil: Add approximately 1 quart of the new 10W30 GN4 Motorcycle Oil into the DCT oil fill opening.
  8. Check Oil Levels: Start the engine and let it idle for a few minutes to circulate the new oil. Shut off the engine and wait a few minutes for the oil to settle. Check both the engine oil and DCT oil levels using the respective dipsticks/sight glasses. Add small amounts of oil as needed until the levels are within the recommended range. Do not overfill.
  9. Inspect for Leaks: Visually inspect all drain plugs and filter covers for any signs of leaks. Tighten gently if necessary, but avoid overtightening.

Maintenance and Disposal

Regular oil changes are crucial for the performance and longevity of your Honda Goldwing DCT. Adhere to the oil change intervals recommended in your motorcycle's owner's manual.

Disposal: Properly dispose of used engine oil and oil filters at an authorized recycling center or automotive waste collection facility. Never dispose of used oil in household trash, drains, or on the ground.
