3. Setup and Installation

Ensure your door is properly prepared for deadbolt installation. The Powerbolt 2 fits standard door preparations with a 2-1/8" (54mm) cross bore and 1" (25mm) edge bore. Backset can be either 2-3/8" (60mm) or 2-3/4" (70mm).

3.3 Installation Steps:

  1. Install Latch: Insert the latch into the door edge, ensuring the "UP" arrow is pointing upwards. Secure with screws.
  2. Install Exterior Assembly: Route the cable through the cross bore. Position the exterior keypad assembly flush against the door.

  5. Install Batteries: Open the battery cover on the interior assembly. Insert 4 AA alkaline batteries (not included), observing polarity. Close the battery cover.

3.4 Programming User Codes:

The lock comes with a default programming code and one default user code. It is recommended to change these immediately after installation.

  1. Change Programming Code:
    • Open the battery cover on the interior assembly.
    • Press the "Program" button once.
    • Enter the existing 4-7 digit Programming Code.
    • Press the "Lock" button.
    • Enter a NEW 4-7 digit Programming Code.
    • Press the "Lock" button.
    • Re-enter the NEW 4-7 digit Programming Code.
    • Press the "Lock" button.
  2. Add User Code:
    • Open the battery cover on the interior assembly.
    • Press the "Program" button once.
    • Enter your Programming Code.
    • Press the "Lock" button.
    • Enter a NEW 4-7 digit User Code.
    • Press the "Lock" button.

    You can program up to 6 user codes.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Locking the Door:

  • From Exterior: Press the "Lock" button on the keypad. The deadbolt will extend.
  • From Interior: Turn the thumb-turn knob to the vertical position.

4.2 Unlocking the Door:

  • From Exterior: Enter a valid 4-7 digit User Code on the keypad. The deadbolt will retract.
  • From Interior: Turn the thumb-turn knob to the horizontal position.

4.3 SmartKey Rekeying:

The SmartKey feature allows you to rekey your lock to work with any Kwikset (KW1) key. This is useful if you want to match your new deadbolt to existing Kwikset keys or if you lose a key and want to prevent unauthorized access.

  1. Insert your functioning key fully into the cylinder.
  2. Rotate the key 90 degrees clockwise to the horizontal position.
  3. Insert the SmartKey tool firmly and fully into the SmartKey hole.
  4. Remove the SmartKey tool.
  5. Remove your functioning key.
  6. Insert your NEW key fully into the cylinder.
  7. Rotate the NEW key 90 degrees counter-clockwise back to the vertical position.
  8. Remove the NEW key.

Important: Test the new key several times to ensure it functions correctly before closing the door.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning:

Clean the lock with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals as they can damage the finish and electronic components.

5.2 Battery Replacement:

When the batteries are low, the lock will emit a series of beeps and the keypad will flash red after a successful code entry. Replace all four AA alkaline batteries promptly to ensure continued operation.

  1. Open the battery cover on the interior assembly.
  2. Remove the old batteries.
  3. Insert four new AA alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the battery cover.

Note: User codes are retained in memory during battery replacement.
