3. Setup and Power Supply

Before using the P100, ensure it is properly connected to a power source. The device supports two primary power supply modes:

  • Cigarette Lighter Connection: Connect the provided adapter to the vehicle's cigarette lighter socket.
  • Car Battery Connection: Use the test clamps to connect directly to the vehicle's 12V or 24V battery terminals. Ensure correct polarity (red to positive, black to negative).

4. Operating Instructions

The P100 offers multiple diagnostic functions. Select the appropriate mode using the Mode Button on the device.

4.1. Voltage & Polarity Testing

To determine DC/AC voltage and positive/negative polarity, touch the probe tip to the circuit or component. The LCD screen will display the voltage, and the red/green indicator lights will show polarity (red for positive, green for negative).

4.2. Resistance Continuity Testing

Select the resistance mode. Touch the probe tip to the component to be tested. The LCD screen will display the resistance value, indicating continuity. A value of 0 ohms typically indicates a direct short, while an infinite reading indicates an open circuit.

4.3. AC Circuit Signal Testing

This function assists in troubleshooting sensor circuit problems. Connect the probe to the signal wire of the sensor. The device will display AC signal characteristics, helping to identify issues.

4.4. Component Activation

The P100 can activate components for testing. This can be done with the component in your hand, in the vehicle, or by providing a ground connection. Follow the on-screen prompts to safely activate components.

4.5. Testing Trailer Lights and Connections

Utilize the 10-meter extension cable to reach trailer lights and connections. This allows for comprehensive testing of wiring and lights on both cars and trucks without needing to reposition the vehicle or tester.

4.6. Checking for Bad Ground Contacts and Locating Short Circuits

The P100 can identify poor ground connections by measuring resistance to a known good ground. For short circuits, the device can trace the circuit path, indicating where the short occurs through voltage drops or continuity changes.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your P100 Automotive Circuit Tester.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth after each use. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the tester in its original case or a protective pouch in a dry, cool environment, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Probe Tip: Ensure the probe tip is clean and sharp for accurate readings. Replace if bent or damaged.
  • Cables: Inspect cables and connectors regularly for signs of wear, cuts, or damage. Replace damaged cables immediately to prevent electrical hazards.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your P100 tester, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Device does not power on.No power from vehicle; loose connection; faulty cable.Check vehicle's power source (cigarette lighter/battery). Ensure connections are secure. Inspect cables for damage.
Inaccurate voltage readings.Poor probe contact; dirty probe tip; incorrect mode selected.Ensure firm contact with the circuit. Clean the probe tip. Verify the correct testing mode is active.
No continuity reading.Open circuit; component failure; poor connection.Check the component for breaks. Ensure good contact with the probe. Test a known good circuit for comparison.
Screen display issues.Extreme temperature; internal fault.Move the device to a moderate temperature environment. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
