4. Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install your Sheng Bang HD-1688 clock movement:

  1. Prepare the Clock Dial: Ensure your clock dial has a central hole for the movement shaft and is no thicker than 6 mm.
  2. Mount the Movement: Insert the movement shaft through the central hole from the back of your clock dial. The movement module should sit behind the dial.
  3. Secure the Movement: Place the black rubber washer, then the gold metal washer, and finally the hexagonal nut onto the shaft from the front of the dial. Tighten the nut gently to secure the movement without overtightening.
  4. Attach the Clock Hands:
    • If present, remove any protective seals from the clock hands.
    • Carefully press the hour hand onto the largest shaft.
    • Next, press the minute hand onto the middle shaft.
    • Finally, press the second hand onto the smallest, central shaft. Ensure all hands are parallel to the dial and do not touch each other.
  5. Insert Battery: Open the battery compartment on the back of the movement. Insert one AA battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).

5. Operation

The Sheng Bang HD-1688 movement is designed for automatic operation:

  1. Initial Synchronization: Upon battery insertion, the clock hands will typically move to 12:00 (or 0:00). The movement will then attempt to receive the UK MSF radio signal to synchronize the time. This process can take several minutes to a few hours depending on signal strength and location.
  2. Automatic Time Adjustment: Once synchronized, the clock will automatically adjust for accurate timekeeping and will also automatically change for daylight saving time (summer/winter).
  3. Manual Setup (Outside UK): If you are using the movement outside the UK or in an area with poor MSF signal reception, manual time setting options may be available. Refer to the specific instructions provided with your movement or the online support resources for details on manual adjustment.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and accurate performance of your clock movement, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Battery Replacement: Replace the AA battery annually or when the clock hands stop moving or begin to lose time consistently. Always use a fresh, high-quality AA battery.
  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the clock movement and hands with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Environment: Keep the clock in a dry environment, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields, which can interfere with its operation.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Sheng Bang HD-1688 clock movement, consider the following:

  • Clock Not Keeping Accurate Time:
    • Ensure the battery is fresh and correctly inserted.
    • Verify that the clock is receiving the UK MSF radio signal. Obstructions (e.g., thick walls, metal structures) or distance from the transmitter can affect signal reception. Try relocating the clock.
    • Allow sufficient time (up to several hours) for the automatic adjustment mechanism to synchronize.
    • If operating outside the UK, manual time adjustment may be required.
  • Clock Hands Not Moving:
    • Check the battery. Replace if necessary.
    • Ensure the clock hands are not bent, touching each other, or rubbing against the clock face, which can obstruct movement.
    • Verify that the hands are securely attached to their respective shafts.
  • No Automatic Time Adjustment:
    • Confirm the clock movement is within range of the UK MSF signal.
    • Check for potential interference from other electronic devices nearby.
    • Ensure the movement is correctly oriented for optimal signal reception.
