Model: T1374071135100

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the proper use, care, and maintenance of your Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 Swiss Automatic Watch. Please read this manual thoroughly to ensure optimal performance and longevity of your timepiece.

The Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 combines a classic 1970s design with modern watchmaking technology. It features a self-winding Powermatic 80 movement, known for its reliability, precision, and an extended power reserve of 80 hours, supported by an innovative Nivachron hairspring.

2. Initial Setup

2.1 Winding the Watch

Your Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 is an automatic mechanical watch. It is powered by the motion of your wrist. If the watch has stopped or its power reserve is low, it needs to be manually wound before wearing.

  1. Unscrew the crown (if applicable) and pull it out to position 1.
  2. Rotate the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will build up sufficient power reserve to start the movement.
  3. Push the crown back in and screw it down (if applicable) to ensure water resistance.

Once wound, the watch will continue to operate as long as it is worn regularly, as wrist movements will keep the mainspring tensioned.

2.2 Setting the Time and Date

  1. Setting the Date: Pull the crown out to position 2. Rotate the crown either clockwise or counter-clockwise to adjust the date. Avoid setting the date between 9 PM and 3 AM, as this can damage the movement.
  2. Setting the Time: Pull the crown out to position 3. The seconds hand will stop. Rotate the crown to set the hour and minute hands. To ensure accuracy, synchronize the time with a reliable time source.
  3. Once the time and date are set, push the crown back into position 1 and screw it down firmly (if applicable) to maintain water resistance.

2.3 Bracelet Adjustment

The stainless steel bracelet is designed for comfort and durability. For optimal fit, the bracelet may need to be adjusted by adding or removing links. It is recommended to have this procedure performed by a qualified watchmaker or an authorized Tissot service center to prevent damage to the bracelet or clasp mechanism.

3. Operating Your Watch

3.1 Automatic Movement

The Powermatic 80 movement is a self-winding mechanism. It harnesses the kinetic energy generated by your arm movements to wind the mainspring. When fully wound, the watch has a power reserve of approximately 80 hours. If the watch is not worn for an extended period, it will stop and require manual winding as described in Section 2.1.

3.2 Date Function

The watch features a date display. The date automatically advances at midnight. If the watch has stopped and you need to set the date, refer to Section 2.2. Remember to adjust the date manually for months with fewer than 31 days.

4. Care and Maintenance

4.1 Water Resistance

Your Tissot PRX Powermatic 80 watch is water-resistant up to 10 bar (100 meters / 330 feet). This rating makes it suitable for swimming and showering. However, it is not recommended for diving or high-impact water sports. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in and screwed down (if applicable) before any contact with water.

  • Do not operate the crown or push-buttons while the watch is wet or submerged.
  • Avoid exposing the watch to sudden temperature changes, which can affect its water resistance.
  • Have the water resistance checked periodically, especially after any impact or battery replacement (though this is an automatic watch, seals can degrade over time).

4.2 Cleaning

To maintain the appearance of your watch, clean the case and metal bracelet regularly with a soft, damp cloth. For stainless steel, a mild soap solution can be used, followed by rinsing with clean water and thorough drying. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

4.3 General Care

  • Avoid exposing your watch to strong magnetic fields, as this can affect the accuracy of the mechanical movement.
  • Protect your watch from impacts and extreme temperatures.
  • For long-term storage, ensure the watch is fully wound to prevent the lubricants from drying out.
  • Regular servicing by an authorized Tissot service center is recommended every 3-5 years to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Watch Not Running

  • Cause: Insufficient power reserve.
  • Solution: Manually wind the watch by rotating the crown 20-30 times clockwise (refer to Section 2.1). Wear the watch regularly to keep it wound.

5.2 Incorrect Time/Date

  • Cause: Time or date not set correctly, or watch has stopped.
  • Solution: Reset the time and date according to Section 2.2. Ensure the crown is fully pushed in and screwed down.

5.3 Condensation Under Crystal

  • Cause: Moisture ingress, often due to compromised seals or extreme temperature changes.
  • Solution: Immediately take the watch to an authorized Tissot service center. Do not attempt to dry it yourself, as this can cause further damage.

For any issues not covered here, or if problems persist, please contact an authorized Tissot service center.
