5. Setup and Installation
The HALO HLBC downlight is designed for easy, canless installation, requiring no recessed housing. It can be installed in shallow ceilings with as little as 1.5 inches of plenum clearance.
Installation Steps:
- Turn Off Power: Before starting, ensure power is disconnected at the circuit breaker to avoid electrical shock.
- Cut Ceiling Hole: Using the provided template or the specified cutout size (4.18 inches / 10.6 cm), cut a circular hole in the ceiling drywall.
- Wire the Junction Box: Open the remote driver/junction box. Connect the building's supply wires (hot, neutral, ground) to the corresponding wires inside the junction box using appropriate wire connectors. Ensure all connections are secure. Close the junction box cover.
- Insert Junction Box: Feed the wired junction box through the cutout hole into the ceiling plenum.
- Connect Downlight: Connect the cable from the downlight fixture to the remote driver/junction box. Ensure the connection is firm.
- Install Downlight: Gently push the downlight fixture into the cutout hole. The spring clips on the sides of the fixture will automatically engage and secure the light against the ceiling surface.

6. Operating Instructions
The HALO HLBC downlight offers flexible lighting options through its selectable color temperature and Dim-to-Warm features.
6.1. Selectable Color Temperature (CCT)
The fixture includes a switch on the remote driver/junction box that allows you to choose from five different color temperatures:
- 2700K: Soft White
- 3000K: Bright White
- 3500K: True White
- 4000K: Cool White
- 5000K: Daylight
Select your desired CCT setting using the switch before installing the junction box into the ceiling or before turning on power.

6.2. Dim-to-Warm Technology
In addition to the selectable CCTs, the fixture features Dim-to-Warm technology. When this setting is selected via the switch on the junction box, the light will automatically transition from a bright white (3000K) to a cozy, candlelight glow (1800K) as it is dimmed. This creates a warm and inviting atmosphere.

6.3. Dimming
The downlight is dimmable down to 5% with compatible dimmers. Ensure you use a dimmer switch that is compatible with LED lighting for optimal performance.
7. Maintenance
The HALO HLBC LED Downlight is designed for long-term, maintenance-free operation. The integrated LED light source does not require replacement.
- Cleaning: To clean the fixture, ensure power is off. Wipe the surface with a soft, dry, or slightly damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these may damage the finish or electrical components.
- Inspection: Periodically inspect the fixture for any signs of damage or loose connections. If any issues are found, disconnect power and consult a qualified electrician.
8. Troubleshooting
If your HALO HLBC downlight is not functioning correctly, refer to the following common issues and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Light does not turn on | No power supply; Loose wiring; Faulty switch | Check circuit breaker; Verify all wire connections; Test switch functionality. |
| Light flickers or dims inconsistently | Incompatible dimmer; Loose wiring; Overloaded circuit | Ensure dimmer is LED compatible; Check wiring connections; Reduce load on circuit. |
| Incorrect color temperature | CCT switch set incorrectly | Access the junction box and adjust the CCT selection switch to the desired setting. |
| Dim-to-Warm not working | CCT switch not set to Dim-to-Warm option | Access the junction box and ensure the CCT selection switch is set to the Dim-to-Warm position. |
If these steps do not resolve the issue, contact customer support.
