1. Introduction and Product Overview

2. Setup

2.1 Unboxing and Initial Inspection

Upon receiving your GOYOJO GY1 Water Activity Meter, carefully open the packaging and inspect all components. The standard package includes the main meter unit, a metal sample chamber, three clear plastic testing containers, a wrist strap, and a user manual. Ensure no items are missing or damaged.

2.2 Battery Installation

The GY1 meter requires 2 AAA 1.5V batteries (not included in all packages, check your specific model). To install, open the battery compartment cover located on the back of the unit. Insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators (+/-) inside the compartment. Close the cover securely.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Calibration

1. Prepare the calibration solution: For a 0.75 aw standard, mix 36 grams of salt with 100 ml of purified or distilled water. Stir until the salt crystals are visible but not fully dissolved, indicating saturation. Let the solution sit for approximately 24 hours to stabilize.
2. Place a small amount of the calibration solution into one of the clear plastic testing containers, filling it about halfway.
3. Carefully place the filled testing container into the metal sample chamber.
4. Attach the meter unit to the sample chamber. The base is magnetic, ensuring a secure fit. Hold the base firmly to prevent the solution from splashing into the sensor.
5. Allow the setup to sit undisturbed for 30 minutes with the meter turned OFF. This allows the humidity inside the chamber to equilibrate with the sample.
6. After 30 minutes, turn the meter ON by pressing the power button. Observe the reading. If it deviates from the expected 0.75 aw, proceed to adjust.
7. To enter calibration mode, press and hold the power button for 7 seconds. The display will show a correction value (e.g., "0.02").
8. Adjust the correction value using the small buttons located inside the battery compartment (accessible with a toothpick or similar tool). The left button increases the value, and the right button decreases it. Adjust until the reading is accurate (e.g., 0.75).
9. Press the power button briefly to save the adjustment and exit calibration mode.
10. Allow the meter to sit with the calibrated solution for another 10-30 minutes, then re-check the reading to confirm accuracy.

4. Measurement Procedure

4.1 Preparing the Sample

For accurate readings, the sample should be representative of the product and prepared appropriately. For solid or semi-solid samples (e.g., jerky, dried fruit), it is recommended to cut or chop the sample into smaller pieces to expose more surface area and ensure proper equilibration with the chamber's humidity. Avoid overfilling the testing container; the sample should not touch the sensor when the meter is attached.

4.2 Taking a Measurement

1. Ensure the meter is clean and the sample chamber is free of debris.
2. Place the prepared sample into a clean plastic testing container.
3. Insert the filled container into the metal sample chamber.
4. Attach the meter unit to the sample chamber, ensuring a secure magnetic connection.
5. Allow the sample to equilibrate within the sealed chamber for at least 5 minutes. For samples with very high or very low water activity (above 0.8 aw or below 0.3 aw), a longer equilibration time (up to 1 hour) may be required.
6. Press the "POWER" button to turn on the meter. The display will show the water activity (aw) value and the sample temperature.
7. The meter provides a constant reading. Note the stable water activity value displayed.

4.3 Data Transfer (Optional)

• Storage: Store the meter in its original carrying case in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. Remove batteries if the device will not be used for an extended period.
• Calibration Check: Periodically check the calibration of the meter, especially if you notice inconsistent readings or after prolonged storage.
