2. Setup and Assembly
Proper setup ensures optimal performance and longevity of your spinning reel.
2.1 Attaching the Handle
The SFL10000 reel features an interchangeable handle for right or left-hand retrieve.

2.2 Spooling Fishing Line
Correctly spooling your line prevents tangles and ensures smooth casting.
- Open the bail arm.
- Tie the fishing line to the spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot.
- Close the bail arm.
- Hold the line taut and begin reeling slowly, ensuring the line lays evenly on the spool.
- Fill the spool to about 1/8 inch from the rim to prevent line overflow.

3. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for effective use of your Sougayilang SFL10000 Spinning Reel.
3.1 Casting
- Hold the rod and reel comfortably.
- Press the line against the rod with your index finger.
- Open the bail arm with your other hand.
- Swing the rod forward, releasing your index finger at the peak of the forward motion to cast the line.
- Close the bail arm manually or by turning the handle after the lure hits the water.

3.2 Reeling and Drag Adjustment
The drag system allows you to control the tension on the line when a fish pulls. Adjust it before fishing to prevent line breakage.
- Reeling: Turn the handle clockwise (for right-hand retrieve) or counter-clockwise (for left-hand retrieve) to retrieve the line.
- Drag Adjustment: Turn the drag dial on the front of the spool clockwise to increase tension and counter-clockwise to decrease tension. Set the drag to about 25-30% of your line's breaking strength.

4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance extends the life and performance of your reel, especially in harsh environments like saltwater.
- Rinse After Use: After each use, especially in saltwater, rinse the reel thoroughly with fresh water. Do not submerge the reel.
- Dry Completely: Allow the reel to air dry completely before storage.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of reel oil to moving parts such as the handle knob, bail arm pivot points, and main shaft. Use reel grease for gears.
- Drag System: Loosen the drag completely before storage to prevent the drag washers from compressing and losing effectiveness. The reel features an Intrusion Shield System to help keep water and dirt out of critical components.
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the reel for any loose screws, corrosion, or damaged parts.

5. Troubleshooting
Common issues and their potential solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Line tangles or bird's nests | Over-spooling, incorrect line type, improper casting technique. | Ensure spool is not overfilled. Use appropriate line for the reel. Practice casting technique. |
| Stiff reeling | Lack of lubrication, dirt/debris in gears, corrosion. | Clean and lubricate the reel. Inspect for debris and remove. |
| Drag slipping or inconsistent | Worn or dry drag washers, water/debris in drag system. | Disassemble and clean drag washers. Apply a thin layer of drag grease if necessary. Ensure drag is loosened during storage. |
| Bail not closing properly | Bent bail wire, spring issue, debris. | Inspect bail wire for bends and gently straighten. Clean any debris from the bail mechanism. |
