3. Setup
Follow these steps to prepare your camera for first use.
3.1 Charging and Installing the Battery
- Insert the LP-E17 battery into the provided LC-E17 charger. Ensure the battery is correctly oriented.
- Plug the charger into a power outlet. The charging indicator light will illuminate.
- Once charging is complete, the indicator light will change or turn off. Remove the battery from the charger.
- Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the camera.
- Insert the charged battery into the compartment, ensuring it clicks into place. Close the cover securely.

The camera uses a Canon LP-E17 Lithium-Ion Battery Pack. Always use the genuine Canon LC-E17 Charger for optimal performance and safety. An additional LPE17 battery and an external charger are included in some bundles for extended shooting time.
3.2 Inserting a Memory Card
- Ensure the camera is turned off.
- Open the memory card slot cover, typically located on the side or bottom of the camera.
- Insert an SD card (e.g., the included SanDisk 64GB Extreme Pro Card) into the slot with the label facing the correct direction, until it clicks into place.
- Close the memory card slot cover securely.
The Canon EOS R100 supports SD, SDHC, and SDXC memory cards. For 4K video recording, a high-speed card (UHS Speed Class 3 or V30) is recommended.
3.3 Attaching a Lens
- Remove the camera body cap and the rear lens cap.
- Align the red or white index mark on the lens with the corresponding mark on the camera's lens mount.
- Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place.
The EOS R100 uses the Canon RF mount. Ensure the lens is securely attached before use.
3.4 Initial Settings
