Setup Instructions

  1. Connect Power: Connect the provided 12V/3A power adapter to the DC 12V port on the docking station and then to a power outlet.
  2. Connect to Computer (for Read/Write): If using for data transfer to/from a computer, connect the docking station to your PC or laptop using the supplied USB A to C cable and adapter (if needed).
  3. Insert Drives:
    • For 2.5-inch/3.5-inch SATA HDDs/SSDs, insert them into the designated SATA 1 or SATA 2 slots.
    • For mSATA SSDs, insert them into the mSATA 1 or mSATA 2 slots.
    • For M.2 SATA SSDs (B+M Key), insert them into the M.2 SATA 1 or M.2 SATA 2 slots.

Important: Ensure drives are inserted correctly and firmly. This docking station supports SATA protocol drives only. NVMe and IDE drives are not compatible.

  4. Power On: Flip the independent power switch to the "ON" position. The power indicator LED will illuminate.

Operating Instructions

A. Data Read/Write (Connected to Computer)

When connected to a computer via the USB cable, the docking station functions as an external drive enclosure. You can read from or write to a single drive, or two identical or different SATA protocol drives simultaneously.

  1. Ensure the docking station is powered on and connected to your computer.
  2. Insert your SATA, mSATA, or M.2 SATA SSD/HDD into any available slot.
  3. Your operating system should detect the drive(s) automatically. You can then access them like any other external storage device.

B. Offline Clone Function

The offline clone function allows you to duplicate data from a source drive to a target drive without needing a computer connection. This is ideal for system upgrades or data backups.

Important Considerations for Cloning:

  • The target disk capacity must be equal to or greater than the source disk capacity. If the target disk is smaller, the cloning process will fail.
  • All data on the target disk will be erased during the cloning process. Back up any important data from the target disk before proceeding.
  • Ensure both source and target drives are SATA protocol drives. NVMe drives are not supported for cloning.
  • Do not connect the docking station to a computer during an offline clone operation.

Cloning Steps:

  1. Prepare Drives:
    • Insert the source drive (the drive you want to copy from) into the slot labeled "Source".
    • Insert the target drive (the drive you want to copy to) into the slot labeled "Target".

Example: If cloning from SATA to SATA, insert source into SATA 1 (Source) and target into SATA 2 (Target).

  2. Ensure Disconnection: Disconnect the USB cable from the docking station if it was connected to a computer. The cloning process must be performed offline.
  3. Power On: Connect the power adapter and turn on the docking station using the independent power switch.
  4. Initiate Clone: Press and hold the "Clone" button for approximately 3-5 seconds until the 25% LED indicator starts blinking.
  5. Confirm Clone: Release the button, then quickly press it again to confirm the cloning process. The LEDs will light up sequentially (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) to indicate progress.
  6. Completion: All four LEDs (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) will remain solid when the cloning process is complete.
  7. Power Off: Turn off the docking station and safely remove the drives.

Supported Cloning Modes:

The docking station supports 9 different cloning modes between SATA, mSATA, and M.2 SATA drives:

  • SATA 1 clone to SATA 2 (or mSATA 2 or M.2 SATA 2)
  • M.2 SATA 1 clone to M.2 SATA 2 (or SATA 2 or mSATA 2)
  • mSATA 1 clone to mSATA 2 (or M.2 SATA 2 or SATA 2)

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your AOKO docking station, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the docking station. Avoid liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use.
  • Heat Dissipation: The aluminum alloy shell and vertical design are engineered for efficient heat dissipation. Ensure the device is placed in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating, especially during prolonged operations like cloning.

Troubleshooting

  • Device Not Detected by Computer:
    • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the docking station and the computer.
    • Try a different USB port on your computer.
    • Verify the docking station is powered on.
    • Test with a different USB cable.
  • Drive Not Recognized:
    • Confirm the drive is properly seated in its slot.
    • Check if the drive is a SATA protocol drive. This docking station does not support NVMe or IDE drives.
    • Ensure the drive is formatted and partitioned. New drives may need initialization in Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS).
    • Test the drive in another enclosure or directly in a computer to rule out drive failure.
  • Offline Clone Fails or Does Not Start:
    • Target disk capacity must be equal to or greater than the source disk capacity. This is a common reason for failure.
    • Ensure the USB cable is disconnected from the computer. Offline cloning requires no computer connection.
    • Verify both source and target drives are SATA protocol drives.
    • Ensure the power adapter is connected and providing sufficient power (especially for 3.5-inch HDDs).
    • Follow the cloning steps precisely: press and hold "Clone" until 25% blinks, then quickly press again to confirm.
  • Slow Data Transfer Speeds:
    • Ensure you are using a USB 3.0/3.1/3.2 port on your computer for optimal speeds.
    • The actual speed depends on the drive's performance and your computer's USB controller.
