4. Installation
4.1 Package Contents
- PANGAEA RV Carbon Monoxide & Propane Dual Gas Detector (PRC2000)
- Mounting Screws
- User Manual (this document)
4.2 Choosing a Location
Select a location that is:
- Within 18 inches of the floor for optimal propane detection.
- At least 6 inches from any opening window or door.
- Away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or areas with high airflow (e.g., vents).
- Not obstructed by furniture or curtains.
- Accessible for testing and viewing the display.
Avoid installing in areas where the temperature may fall below 32°F (0°C) or exceed 120°F (49°C).
4.3 Mounting the Detector
- Turn off all 12V DC power to your RV before beginning installation.
- Carefully remove the existing detector (if replacing one) or prepare the mounting surface. The PRC2000 is designed for flush mounting.
- Refer to the dimensions provided to ensure proper fit. The unit measures approximately 6-3/8" (162mm) wide, 2-7/8" (73mm) high, and 1-7/8" (48mm) deep.
- Connect the detector's wires to the RV's 12V DC power supply. The red wire is positive (+), and the black wire is negative (-). Ensure a secure connection.
- Mount the detector using the provided screws.
- Restore 12V DC power to your RV. The detector will perform a self-test.

5. Operation
5.1 Power-Up and Self-Test
Upon initial power-up or after a power interruption, the detector will perform a self-test sequence. During this time, the LCD display will illuminate, and the alarm may briefly sound. Once the self-test is complete, the green LED indicator will light up, indicating normal operation.
5.2 Normal Operation
During normal operation, the green LED indicator will be illuminated. The LCD screen typically remains off to conserve power unless a gas concentration is detected or the TEST/RESET button is pressed. If gas is detected, the LCD will display the concentration in PPM (Parts Per Million).

5.3 Alarm Conditions and Indicators
The detector provides both visual and audible alerts:
- Green LED: Indicates normal operation.
- Yellow LED: Indicates a fault condition. Refer to the Troubleshooting section.
- Red LED & 85dB Alarm: Indicates a dangerous level of CO or Propane gas detected. The LCD will display the gas concentration.

ACTION IN CASE OF ALARM:
- Immediately move to fresh air.
- Do not re-enter the RV until the source of the gas leak has been identified and corrected, and the area has been thoroughly ventilated.
- Contact emergency services or a qualified technician if you suspect a serious gas leak.
5.4 TEST/RESET Button
Press and hold the TEST/RESET button to:
- Test the Alarm: The alarm will sound, and the LEDs will cycle, confirming the unit is functional.
- Reset the Alarm: If an alarm is sounding, pressing this button will silence it and allow the unit to re-evaluate gas levels. If gas is still present, the alarm will reactivate.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Regular Testing
Test the detector weekly by pressing the TEST/RESET button. This verifies the alarm and indicators are working correctly.
6.2 Cleaning
Clean the exterior of the detector periodically with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents, solvents, or polishes, as these can damage the sensor or casing. Ensure no dust or debris obstructs the sensor openings.
6.3 Sensor Lifespan and Replacement
The gas sensor has a limited operational lifespan. The PANGAEA PRC2000 detector should be replaced 60 months (5 years) after the date of retail sale. A fault indicator or specific message on the LCD may appear when the unit reaches its end-of-life.

7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Detector does not power on. | No 12V DC power, incorrect wiring, blown fuse. | Check RV's 12V power supply. Verify wiring (red to +, black to -). Check RV's fuse panel. |
| Yellow LED illuminated / Fault message on LCD. | Internal sensor fault, end-of-life, wiring issue. | Press TEST/RESET button. If fault persists, check wiring. If unit is older than 5 years, replace it. Contact support if new and fault persists. |
| Red LED illuminated / Alarm sounding. | Carbon Monoxide or Propane gas detected. | Follow "ACTION IN CASE OF ALARM" steps (Section 5.3). Ventilate the area. Identify and fix the gas source. |
| False alarms. | Interference from strong odors (cleaners, aerosols), high humidity, sensor contamination. | Ensure proper ventilation. Avoid using strong chemicals near the detector. Clean the detector as per maintenance instructions. Relocate if persistent. |
| LCD screen remains off during normal operation. | This is normal behavior to conserve power. | The LCD will activate when gas is detected or the TEST/RESET button is pressed. The green LED indicates normal operation. |
