5. Operating Instructions

5.1 First Use and Seasoning

Before cooking food for the first time, it is recommended to season your grill. This helps to burn off any manufacturing residues and create a non-stick surface on the grates.

  1. Light a small amount of charcoal and allow it to burn for about 30-45 minutes with the lid closed.
  2. Once the charcoal has burned down, allow the grill to cool completely.
  3. Lightly coat the cooking grates with a high-heat cooking oil (e.g., vegetable oil, canola oil).
  4. Re-light the charcoal and heat the grill for another 30 minutes. This process helps to cure the enamel and create a protective layer.

5.2 Charcoal Loading and Ignition

  • Place charcoal briquettes or lump charcoal directly onto the charcoal grid with ash pan (8). Do not overfill. The adjustable charcoal pan allows for 4 levels of height adjustment to control heat intensity.
  • Use a charcoal chimney starter or approved charcoal lighter fluid to ignite the charcoal. Allow charcoal to ash over completely before placing food on the grates.

5.3 Temperature Control

  • The lid-mounted thermometer (18) provides an internal temperature reading, helping you monitor cooking conditions.
  • Adjust the air doors (16) on the sides of the grill to control airflow. More airflow increases temperature, less airflow reduces it.
  • Utilize the 4-level height-adjustable charcoal pan to bring the charcoal closer to or further from the cooking grates, allowing for precise heat control.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your grill.

  • Cleaning Cooking Grates: The enamel cooking grates (6) are resistant to high temperatures and easy to clean. After each use, once the grill has cooled, scrape off any food residue with a grill brush. For stubborn residue, wash with warm soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
  • Ash Disposal: Regularly empty the ash pan (part of 8) after the grill has completely cooled. Proper disposal of ashes is crucial for safety.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Wipe down the exterior surfaces with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Dry thoroughly to prevent rust. The grill is designed to be rust resistant.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the grill in a dry, covered area to protect it from the elements. If storing outdoors, use a weather-resistant grill cover.
