3. Setup and Installation

3.1 Battery Installation

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the detector.
  2. Insert three (3) AAA batteries (not included), ensuring correct polarity (+ and -).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.
  4. Upon battery insertion, the detector will perform a self-test, indicated by a sequence of LED lights and a countdown on the LCD display.

Note: For optimal performance and safety, use high-quality, non-rechargeable alkaline batteries.

3.2 Mounting Instructions

Proper placement of your CO detector is crucial for effective monitoring. Carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and mixes readily with it. For best results, install detectors:

  • On every level of your home, including basements.
  • Near sleeping areas and in rooms where fuel-burning appliances are used.
  • At least 5 feet (1.5 meters) from fuel-burning appliances to avoid false alarms during startup.
  • On a wall, approximately 5 feet (1.5 meters) from the floor, or on the ceiling.
  • Avoid placing near windows, doors, or vents where drafts could affect readings.

Installation Steps:

  1. Choose a suitable location according to the guidelines above.
  2. Use the provided mounting hardware (screws and anchors) or adhesive pads.
  3. If using screws, mark the drill points, drill holes, insert anchors, and secure the mounting bracket.
  4. Attach the detector to the mounting bracket. Ensure the display is oriented correctly for easy viewing.
  5. After installation, press the "TEST" button to confirm proper operation.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Normal Operation

Once batteries are installed and the self-test is complete, the detector enters normal monitoring mode. The green LED indicator will blink periodically (approximately every 20-30 seconds) to confirm proper operation. The LCD display will typically show "0 PPM" or remain blank until CO is detected.

4.2 Alarm Conditions

When carbon monoxide is detected at dangerous levels, the detector will activate its alarm:

  • The red LED indicator will flash rapidly.
  • The audible alarm will sound loudly (85dB).
  • The LCD display will show the detected CO concentration in PPM.

The alarm thresholds are based on the EN 50291 standard:

  • 30 PPM: Alarm within 120 minutes.
  • 50 PPM: Alarm between 60 to 90 minutes.
  • 100 PPM: Alarm between 10 to 40 minutes.
  • 300 PPM: Alarm within 3 minutes.

4.3 What to Do When the Alarm Sounds

  1. Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows to ventilate the area.
  2. Do a head count to check that all persons are accounted for.
  3. Do not re-enter the premises until the CO source has been identified and corrected, and the area has been thoroughly ventilated.
  4. Call your emergency services, fire department, or gas supplier from a fresh air location.
  5. Press the "TEST/RESET" button to silence the alarm. If the alarm continues, it indicates CO is still present.

4.4 Test Function

Press and hold the "TEST" button for a few seconds. The detector will emit a series of beeps and flash its LEDs, and the LCD will show a test reading (e.g., "000 PPM" or a test sequence). This confirms the alarm's electronic circuitry, sensor, and horn are working correctly. Test your detector weekly.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Battery Replacement

When the batteries are low, the detector will typically indicate this with a specific low-battery warning (e.g., a yellow LED flash, a chirp, or a low battery icon on the LCD). Replace all three AAA batteries immediately with new, high-quality alkaline batteries. Refer to Section 3.1 for battery installation steps.

5.2 Cleaning Your Detector

Clean your CO detector regularly to prevent dust and debris from accumulating and affecting its performance. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use cleaning solvents or waxes. Do not paint the detector.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Detector does not power on.Batteries are not installed or are installed incorrectly. Batteries are dead.Install new AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity.
Green LED not blinking.Detector is not functioning correctly.Press the "TEST" button. If it still doesn't blink, replace batteries. If issue persists, contact support.
Alarm sounds without visible CO source.False alarm due to interfering substances (e.g., strong cleaning agents, paint fumes) or actual low-level CO.Ventilate the area. If the alarm stops, it may have been a false alarm or a transient CO presence. If it continues, treat as a real CO emergency.
Low battery warning (e.g., yellow LED, chirp).Batteries are running low.Replace all three AAA batteries immediately.
Inconsistent LED blink patterns or test button behavior between multiple units.Minor manufacturing variations or software differences. As long as the detector passes the "TEST" function and the green LED blinks, the unit is generally operating as intended. If you have significant concerns, contact customer support.
