LJCELL CR2032 CMOS Battery for Intel NUC, Laptop, PS2, PS3 BIOS RTC - Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential instructions for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your LJCELL CR2032 CMOS Battery. This battery is designed to maintain the BIOS settings, system time, and date on compatible devices such as Intel NUCs, various laptops, Sony PlayStation 2 (PS2), and PlayStation 3 (PS3) consoles. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation to ensure correct usage and optimal performance.

2. Product Overview

The LJCELL CR2032 CMOS battery is a high-quality, reliable power source for maintaining critical system information in electronic devices. It features a standard CR2032 cell encased in a protective plastic housing, connected by a 2-wire cable to a 1.25mm pitch connector (model MX51021-0200-B). Each battery is designed with safety in mind, including insulation for positive and negative electrodes and double-sided tape for secure mounting.

3. Setup and Installation

Replacing a CMOS battery requires careful handling of electronic components. Always refer to your device's specific service manual for detailed instructions on accessing and replacing the CMOS battery. The following are general guidelines:

  1. Power Off and Disconnect: Completely power off your device and disconnect it from all power sources. For laptops, remove the main battery.
  2. Discharge Static Electricity: Before touching any internal components, discharge any static electricity from your body by touching a grounded metal object. Consider using an anti-static wrist strap.
  3. Locate the Old CMOS Battery: Open your device's casing (laptop, console, NUC) and locate the existing CMOS battery. It is typically a small, coin-shaped battery connected by wires to the motherboard.
  4. Disconnect the Old Battery: Carefully disconnect the connector of the old CMOS battery from the motherboard. Note the orientation of the connector.
  5. Connect the New Battery: Connect the LJCELL CR2032 CMOS battery to the motherboard. Ensure the connector is inserted correctly and securely. Pay close attention to the polarity.

4. Operating Instructions

The LJCELL CR2032 CMOS battery operates passively once installed. Its primary function is to provide continuous power to the Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor (CMOS) memory on your device's motherboard. This memory stores essential BIOS/UEFI settings, including the system time, date, and hardware configuration, even when the device is powered off or disconnected from the main power supply. No user interaction is required for its operation after successful installation.

5. Maintenance

  • Battery Lifespan: The LJCELL CR2032 CMOS battery is designed for long-term use, typically lasting up to 8 years. Replacement is generally only necessary when the device begins to lose its time/date settings or BIOS configurations upon power loss.
  • Non-Rechargeable: This battery is a primary cell and is not rechargeable. Attempting to recharge it can cause damage to the battery and potentially the device.
  • Storage: Store unused batteries in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Keep them in their original packaging until ready for use to prevent short circuits.
  • Disposal: Dispose of used batteries according to local regulations for electronic waste. Do not incinerate or expose to high temperatures.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
System time/date resets after power off.Depleted or faulty CMOS battery.Replace the CMOS battery with a new LJCELL CR2032 battery.
BIOS/UEFI settings revert to default.Depleted or faulty CMOS battery.Replace the CMOS battery.
New battery does not resolve the issue.
  • Incorrect installation (e.g., loose connection).
  • Incorrect connector polarity.
  • Faulty motherboard component.
  • Verify the battery connector is firmly seated.
  • Check the connector polarity against Figure 3.1. Some devices may have reversed polarity; if issues persist, consult your device's manual or a qualified technician.
  • If the problem persists after verifying installation, the issue may lie with the motherboard.
