CXRCY 12" x 18" Wood Lathe Instruction Manual
Model: MC1218 | Brand: CXRCY
1. Important Safety Information
Read and understand all instructions before operating this wood lathe. Failure to follow all instructions listed below may result in electric shock, fire, and/or serious personal injury.
1.1 General Safety Rules
- Work Area Safety: Keep your work area clean and well-lit. Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents. Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gases, or dust. Power tools create sparks which may ignite the dust or fumes.
- Electrical Safety: Power tool plugs must match the outlet. Never modify the plug in any way. Do not use any adapter plugs with grounded power tools. Unmodified plugs and matching outlets will reduce risk of electric shock.
- Personal Safety: Always wear eye protection (safety goggles are included with the product). Use hearing protection when operating the lathe for extended periods. Do not wear loose clothing, gloves, neckties, rings, bracelets, or other jewelry which could become caught in moving parts. Tie back long hair.
- Machine Specific Safety: Ensure the workpiece is securely mounted before starting the lathe. Never leave the lathe running unattended. Always disconnect power before making adjustments, changing accessories, or performing maintenance.

3. Setup and Assembly
Before operating the lathe, ensure it is properly assembled and securely mounted to a stable workbench.
3.1 Unpacking and Inspection
- Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
- Inspect all parts for any shipping damage. If any damage is found, do not proceed with assembly and contact customer support.
- Verify that all listed components and accessories are present.
3.2 Assembly Steps
- Mounting the Lathe: Securely bolt the lathe to a sturdy workbench using appropriate fasteners. The lathe base has pre-drilled holes for mounting. Ensure the workbench can support the weight and vibrations of the lathe during operation.
- Attaching the Tool Rest: Slide the tool rest base onto the lathe bed and secure it with the locking handle. Adjust the height and position of the tool rest to suit your turning needs.
- Positioning the Tailstock: Slide the tailstock onto the lathe bed. It can be moved along the bed and locked into position using its locking lever.
- Connecting Power: Ensure the power switch is in the "OFF" position before plugging the lathe into a grounded 110V AC outlet.

4. Operating Instructions
This section details the steps for safely operating your CXRCY wood lathe.
4.1 Mounting a Workpiece
- Select a suitable workpiece free of cracks, knots, or foreign objects.
- Mount the workpiece between the headstock drive center and the tailstock live center. Ensure the workpiece is centered and held firmly.
- Adjust the tailstock to apply sufficient pressure to secure the workpiece, then lock the tailstock in place.
- Rotate the workpiece by hand to ensure it clears the tool rest and other parts of the lathe.
4.2 Speed Control
The lathe features infinitely variable speed control with three distinct ranges:
- Low Speed: 650-1450 RPM (Ideal for larger diameter workpieces or initial roughing).
- Mid Speed: 1250-2800 RPM (Suitable for medium-sized work and general turning).
- High Speed: 1600-3800 RPM (Best for smaller diameter workpieces and finishing).
Adjust the speed using the control knob on the headstock. The digital display will show the current RPM.

4.3 Turning Operations
- Always wear safety goggles before starting the lathe.
- Turn on the lathe and allow it to reach the desired speed.
- Position the tool rest as close as possible to the workpiece without touching it.
- Using appropriate turning tools, begin shaping the workpiece. Always apply light, controlled pressure.
- Regularly check the workpiece for stability and adjust the tool rest as the diameter of the workpiece changes.
- When finished, turn off the lathe and allow the workpiece to come to a complete stop before removing it.

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your wood lathe.
5.1 Cleaning
- Always disconnect the lathe from power before cleaning.
- Remove wood chips and dust from the lathe bed, headstock, and tailstock after each use. A brush or vacuum cleaner is recommended.
- Wipe down all surfaces with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid using solvents that may damage painted surfaces.
5.2 Lubrication
- Periodically apply a light coat of machine oil to the lathe bed and tailstock quill to ensure smooth movement.
- Check the headstock bearings for any signs of wear or excessive noise. Consult a qualified technician if issues are detected.
5.3 General Care
- Store the lathe in a dry environment to prevent rust.
- Inspect power cords and plugs for damage regularly. Replace if necessary.
- Ensure all nuts, bolts, and fasteners are tight before each use.
