3. Setup
3.1 Battery Installation
The Olufey OL50 requires two 1.5V AAA batteries. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the device, open the cover, insert the batteries according to the polarity indicators (+/-), and close the cover securely.
3.2 Initial Power On
Press the MEAS/ON button to power on the device. The LCD screen will illuminate. Ensure the device is placed on a stable, level surface for accurate initial setup. The integrated bubble levels assist in achieving precise horizontal and vertical alignment.

4.1 Key Functions
Familiarize yourself with the buttons and their primary functions:

- MEAS/ON Button: Powers the device on/off and initiates measurements.
- Function/Data Storage Button: Short press to cycle through measurement modes (distance, area, volume, Pythagorean). Long press to enter data storage/memory function.
- +/- Button: Used for addition and subtraction of measurements, and for navigating forward/backward in menus.
- Benchmark/Unit Switch Button: Short press to switch the measurement benchmark (front/rear of device). Long press to switch measurement units (meters, inches, feet).
4.2 Measurement Modes
The OL50 supports various measurement types:

- Single Measurement: Press the MEAS/ON button once to activate the laser, then press again to take a single distance measurement.
- Continuous Measurement: In single measurement mode, press and hold the MEAS/ON button to enter continuous measurement (tracking) mode. The device will continuously update the distance as you move it.
- Area Measurement: Select area mode. Take two consecutive measurements (length and width). The device will automatically calculate and display the area.
- Volume Measurement: Select volume mode. Take three consecutive measurements (length, width, and height). The device will automatically calculate and display the volume.
- Pythagorean Method: Select Pythagorean mode. Follow the on-screen prompts to take the required measurements (e.g., hypotenuse and one leg) to indirectly calculate a distance.
4.3 Unit Conversion
To switch between measurement units (meters, inches, feet), long press the Benchmark/Unit Switch button. The current unit will be displayed on the LCD screen.

4.4 Addition and Subtraction
The device allows you to add or subtract measurements. After taking a measurement, press the +/- button, then take another measurement. The device will perform the selected operation and display the result.

4.5 Data Storage
The OL50 can store up to 99 sets of measurement data. Long press the Function/Data Storage button to access the memory. You can scroll through stored measurements using the +/- buttons.

5. Maintenance
5.1 Cleaning
To clean the device, use a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Pay special attention to keeping the laser lens clean for accurate measurements.
5.2 Storage
When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the device in its carry bag in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

- Device does not power on: Check if batteries are inserted correctly and have sufficient charge. Replace batteries if necessary.
- Inaccurate measurements: Ensure the laser lens is clean. Verify the measurement benchmark setting (front or rear of device). Ensure the target surface is reflective enough and the device is stable.
- "Error" message on display: This may indicate an out-of-range measurement, an obstruction, or an internal issue. Try restarting the device. If the problem persists, refer to the specifications for the measuring range.
