2. Safety Information
Important: This device is designed to detect smoke and carbon monoxide. It is not a substitute for property, disability, life, or other insurance. This detector is not a substitute for proper ventilation and maintenance of fuel-burning appliances.
- Never ignore an alarm. Investigate the cause immediately.
- Do not paint the detector. Paint can clog the sensing chambers and prevent the unit from operating correctly.
- Test the detector weekly. Refer to the 'Operation' section for testing instructions.
- Replace batteries promptly when the low battery warning is indicated.
- Carbon Monoxide (CO) Poisoning: CO is an invisible, odorless, tasteless gas that can be fatal. Symptoms include headache, dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and confusion. If the CO alarm sounds, move to fresh air immediately and call emergency services.
- Fire Safety: If the smoke alarm sounds, follow your established fire escape plan.

4. Setup and Installation

Battery Installation:
- Twist the mounting bracket counter-clockwise to detach it from the main unit.
- Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the unit.
- Insert the 3 AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -).
- Close the battery compartment cover. The unit will emit a short beep and the green LED will flash, indicating power-on.
Choosing a Location:
For optimal detection of both smoke and carbon monoxide, consider the following:
- Install at least one detector on every level of your home, including basements and attics.
- Place detectors inside or near sleeping areas.
- For smoke detection, mount on the ceiling in the center of a room or hallway. If wall-mounted, place 4-12 inches (10-30 cm) from the ceiling.
- For carbon monoxide detection, CO is slightly lighter than air and mixes with ambient air. Place the detector at a height where it can be easily seen and heard, typically at eye level or higher.
- Avoid placing detectors in or near: kitchens (due to cooking fumes), bathrooms (due to steam), garages (due to vehicle exhaust), near windows or doors (drafts can affect sensors), or in direct sunlight.
- Maintain a distance of at least 20 feet (6 meters) from fuel-burning appliances.

Mounting the Detector:
- Once the ideal location is chosen, use the mounting bracket as a template to mark the positions for drilling.
- Drill two holes at the marked positions. If installing on drywall or plaster, insert the expansion tubes.
- Secure the mounting bracket to the wall or ceiling using the provided screws.
- Align the detector unit with the mounting bracket and twist clockwise until it locks securely into place.

5. Operation
Normal Operation:
Once batteries are installed and the unit is mounted, the green POWER LED will flash approximately once every 30-40 seconds, indicating normal operation. The LCD display will typically remain blank unless a CO concentration is detected or the test button is pressed. This conserves battery life.

Testing the Detector:
It is recommended to test your detector weekly to ensure proper function.
- Press and hold the 'TEST' button located on the front of the unit for approximately 3 seconds.
- The detector will emit a series of loud beeps, and the red ALARM LED will flash. The LCD display may show a test value (e.g., '0' or a simulated CO level).
- Release the button. The alarm will stop, and the unit will return to normal operation.

Alarm Indications:
- Smoke Alarm: Loud, continuous beeping (e.g., three long beeps, pause, three long beeps). The red ALARM LED will flash rapidly.
- Carbon Monoxide Alarm: A series of four quick beeps, pause, four quick beeps. The red ALARM LED will flash, and the LCD display will show the detected CO level in PPM.
- Low Battery Warning: The yellow FAULT LED will flash, and the unit will chirp approximately once every 60 seconds. Replace batteries immediately.
- Fault/Malfunction: The yellow FAULT LED will flash, and the unit may chirp irregularly or display an error code. Refer to the 'Troubleshooting' section.
Silencing the Alarm:
In case of a non-emergency alarm (e.g., cooking fumes), press the 'TEST/SILENCE' button to temporarily silence the alarm for approximately 5-10 minutes. The alarm will reactivate if the smoke or CO concentration remains high. Never silence an alarm without investigating the cause.
6. Maintenance
Battery Replacement:
When the low battery warning sounds (yellow FAULT LED flashes and unit chirps every 60 seconds), replace all three AA batteries immediately. Use only alkaline AA batteries. Refer to 'Battery Installation' in the 'Setup' section for steps.
Cleaning the Detector:
Clean your detector at least once a month to remove dust and debris. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use cleaning sprays or solvents. Gently vacuum around the air intake holes using a soft brush attachment. Do not remove the cover or attempt to clean inside the unit.
