Operating Instructions

Making Espresso (1-4 Cups)

Espresso machine brewing coffee

Figure 3: The Ihomekee CM6810 is designed for quick brewing, producing 2-4 cups of espresso in 2-3 minutes.

  1. Prepare Coffee Grounds: Use finely ground espresso coffee. For 1-2 cups, fill the filter basket to the 2-cup mark. For 3-4 cups, fill to the 4-cup mark. Do not overfill or tamp too hard.
  2. Insert Portafilter: Place the filled filter basket into the portafilter. Insert the portafilter into the brewing head. Rotate it counter-clockwise from the "INSERT" position to the "LOCK" position. Ensure it is securely locked to prevent spillage.
    Correct portafilter locking

Figure 4: Proper rotation of the portafilter from 'INSERT' to 'LOCK' position to ensure secure fit and prevent leaks.

  3. Fill Water Reservoir: Ensure the water reservoir is filled with fresh, cold water to the desired level (corresponding to the number of cups).
  4. Preheating Function: Plug in the machine. The indicator light will illuminate. The new preheating function ensures optimal extraction temperature. When the preheating is complete, the light will turn green.
  5. Brewing: Place the glass carafe under the portafilter. Turn the control knob to the "Brew" position. The espresso will begin to flow into the carafe.
  6. Stop Brewing: Once the desired amount of espresso is brewed (refer to the markings on the carafe), turn the control knob to the "Off" position.
  7. Release Pressure: Wait a few moments for the pressure to release before carefully removing the portafilter.

Frothing Milk with the Steam Wand

Using the steam wand to froth milk

Figure 5: The powerful steam wand creates creamy froth and microfoam for various coffee beverages.

  1. Prepare Milk: Fill a stainless steel frothing pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to about one-third full.
  2. Activate Steam: After brewing espresso, or if only frothing, ensure the machine is heated. Turn the control knob to the "Steam" position. Wait for the steam indicator light to turn on, indicating the machine is ready to produce steam.
  3. Purge Steam Wand: Briefly open the steam knob to release any condensed water from the wand into an empty cup. Close the steam knob.
  4. Froth Milk: Immerse the tip of the steam wand just below the surface of the milk. Slowly open the steam knob. Move the pitcher up and down slightly to incorporate air and create foam. Once the milk has doubled in volume and reached the desired temperature (around 150-160°F or 60-70°C), close the steam knob.
  5. Clean Steam Wand: Immediately after frothing, wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to remove any milk residue. Briefly open the steam knob again to clear any milk from inside the wand.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your espresso machine.

Daily Cleaning:

  • Portafilter and Filter Basket: After each use, remove the portafilter, discard used coffee grounds, and rinse the portafilter and filter basket under warm water. Use a brush to remove any stubborn residue.
  • Glass Carafe: Wash the carafe with warm soapy water after each use.
  • Drip Tray: Empty and rinse the drip tray daily.
  • Steam Wand: As mentioned in the operating instructions, wipe and purge the steam wand immediately after each use.
  • Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the machine with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scourers.

Descaling (Monthly or as Needed):

Mineral deposits from water can build up over time, affecting performance. Descale your machine regularly, especially in areas with hard water.

  1. Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions, or use a mixture of white vinegar and water (1:1 ratio).
  2. Fill the water reservoir with the descaling solution.
  3. Place an empty carafe under the portafilter.
  4. Turn the machine on and allow it to heat up.
  5. Run half of the solution through the brewing head by turning the control knob to "Brew".
  6. Turn the control knob to "Steam" and run the remaining solution through the steam wand.
  7. Turn off the machine and let it sit for 15-20 minutes.
  8. Rinse Cycle: Fill the reservoir with fresh water and run two full cycles through the machine (one through the brewing head, one through the steam wand) to rinse thoroughly.
