4. Setup and Installation

These floating shelves are designed for straightforward wall mounting. Ensure you have the necessary tools before starting.

Tools Required (Not Included):

  • Pencil
  • Drill
  • Drill bit (appropriate size for wall anchors)
  • Hammer (for wall anchors)
  • Screwdriver (Phillips head)
  • Level

Installation Steps:

  1. Choose Location: Select a suitable wall location for your shelves. Consider the desired height and spacing between the two shelves. Ensure the wall material can support the shelves and their contents.
  2. Mark Mounting Points: Hold one shelf against the wall at the desired height. Use a pencil to mark the positions for the pre-drilled holes on the shelf's back panel. Use a level to ensure the marks are perfectly horizontal. Repeat for the second shelf.
  3. Drill Pilot Holes: Using a drill and the appropriate drill bit size for your wall anchors, carefully drill pilot holes at the marked points.
  4. Insert Wall Anchors: Gently tap the wall anchors into the pilot holes with a hammer until they are flush with the wall surface. (Skip this step if mounting directly into wood studs).
  5. Attach Shelves: Align the pre-drilled holes on the back of the shelf with the installed wall anchors (or pilot holes in studs). Insert the provided screws through the shelf and into the anchors/studs. Tighten the screws firmly with a screwdriver until the shelf is secure against the wall. Do not overtighten.
  6. Verify Stability: Gently pull on the installed shelf to ensure it is firmly attached and does not wobble.

5. Usage Instructions

Once installed, your Boswillon floating shelves are ready for use.

  • Display Items: Place decorative items, books, small plants, photo frames, or other objects on the shelves.
  • Protective Ledge: The integrated protective ledge helps prevent items from sliding or falling off the front of the shelf. Arrange items carefully to utilize this feature.
  • Weight Distribution: Distribute the weight of items evenly across the shelf surface. Avoid concentrating heavy items in one spot. Remember the 9 kg (20 lbs) weight limit per shelf.

6. Maintenance

Proper care will help maintain the appearance and longevity of your shelves.

  • Cleaning: Wipe the shelves with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the laminated PVC finish.
  • Dusting: Regularly dust the shelves to prevent buildup.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the mounting screws to ensure they remain tight. Retighten if any looseness is detected.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter any issues with your Boswillon floating shelves, consider the following:

  • Shelf is not level: Ensure the mounting points were marked accurately using a level. If necessary, remove the shelf, adjust the pilot holes/anchors, and re-mount.
  • Shelf feels unstable: Verify that all mounting screws are fully tightened. Ensure the wall anchors are appropriate for your wall type and installed correctly. If mounting into drywall without studs, ensure the anchors are rated for the expected weight.
  • Items sliding off: While the shelves have a protective ledge, ensure items are placed securely and are not top-heavy or prone to tipping. Recheck the shelf's levelness.
  • Damage during installation: If the shelf or wall is damaged during installation, cease assembly and assess the damage. Contact a professional if structural wall damage is suspected.
