This close-up image highlights the pre-gain DIP switches on the rear panel. There are two sets of four switches, one for the Left channel and one for the Right channel, allowing for precise gain adjustment from -18 dB to +18 dB.

5. Setup

5.1 Power Connection

  1. Before connecting the power cable, ensure the Voltage Selector on the rear panel is set to the correct voltage for your region (115 VAC or 230 VAC). Incorrect voltage selection can damage the unit.
  2. Connect the supplied power cable to the AC Power Inlet on the rear panel of the V222.
  3. Plug the other end of the power cable into a suitable wall outlet.

5.2 Audio Input Connection

The V222 supports both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs.

  • For Balanced Sources (e.g., DAC with XLR outputs): Connect your source device's XLR outputs to the "BAL IN" XLR inputs on the V222's rear panel.
  • For Unbalanced Sources (e.g., DAC with RCA outputs): Connect your source device's RCA outputs to the "UNBAL IN" RCA inputs on the V222's rear panel.

5.3 Headphone Output Connection

The V222 offers multiple headphone output options:

  • 4-pin XLR Balanced: For headphones with a 4-pin XLR balanced connector.

This image provides a close-up view of the 4-pin XLR balanced headphone output jack on the front panel, labeled "NEUTRIK".

  • Pentaconn Symmetrical: For headphones with a Pentaconn symmetrical connector.
  • 6.3 mm Jack Unbalanced: For headphones with a standard 6.3mm (1/4 inch) unbalanced stereo jack.

Connect your headphones to the appropriate output jack on the front panel.

5.4 Pre-Gain Adjustment (DIP Switches)

The V222 features adjustable pre-gain settings via DIP switches on the rear panel. This allows you to optimize the amplifier's gain for different headphones and source levels, ensuring optimal performance and preventing clipping or excessive noise.

Refer to Figure 4.3 for the location of the DIP switches. Each channel (Left and Right) has four switches, allowing for gain adjustments from -18 dB to +18 dB. Consult the table below for common settings or experiment to find the best setting for your specific headphones and listening preferences.

Table 5.1: Pre-Gain DIP Switch Settings (Example)
Gain SettingDIP Switch Configuration (1-4)Recommended Use Case
-18 dBAll OFFVery sensitive IEMs or high-output sources.
0 dBSpecific combination (e.g., 1 ON, others OFF)Standard setting for many headphones.
+18 dBAll ONVery inefficient headphones or low-output sources.

Note: The exact combination for each gain step is usually detailed in the manufacturer's full technical manual. Adjust these settings with the amplifier powered off.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Powering On/Off

  1. Ensure your headphones are connected and the volume knob is set to a low level before powering on.

Adjust the Volume Knob on the front panel to achieve your desired listening level. Always start with a low volume and gradually increase it to a comfortable level to protect your hearing and equipment.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the amplifier. Do not use liquid cleaners or aerosols.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the ventilation openings are clear of dust and debris to prevent overheating.
  • Storage: If storing the unit for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a cool, dry place.
