4. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Audiobox ANT-400 antenna:

  1. Unpack the Antenna: Carefully remove the antenna unit and AC power adapter from the packaging.
  2. Connect to TV/Tuner: Locate the coaxial input (usually labeled 'Antenna In', 'RF In', or 'Cable/Antenna') on your television or digital tuner. Connect the coaxial cable from the antenna to this input.
  3. Connect Power: Plug the small end of the AC power adapter into the power input port on the antenna unit. Plug the other end of the AC power adapter into a standard electrical outlet. The 'POWER' indicator light on the antenna should illuminate.
  4. Position the Antenna: Place the antenna in a location that offers the best possible signal reception. Generally, higher locations or near a window facing the broadcast towers are ideal. Avoid placing it near large metal objects or other electronic devices that may cause interference.
  5. Extend and Adjust Antennas: Extend the telescoping antennas fully. For optimal VHF reception, adjust their length and angle. For UHF reception, the circular dipole elements are primarily used.
  6. Rotate for Signal: Utilize the 180° rotating base to point the antenna in the direction of local broadcast towers. You may need to experiment with different orientations to find the strongest signal.

5. Operating Instructions

Once the antenna is set up, follow these steps to scan for channels and optimize reception:

  1. Perform a Channel Scan:
    • Turn on your TV and select the correct input source (e.g., TV, Antenna, Air).
    • Navigate to your TV's 'Menu' or 'Settings'.
    • Look for options like 'Channel Scan', 'Auto Program', 'Auto Tune', or 'Antenna Scan'. Select this option to begin scanning for available channels. This process may take several minutes.
  2. Adjust Gain Control: The ANT-400 features an adjustable gain control knob. If you are experiencing pixelation or signal dropouts, or if the signal is too strong (causing overload), adjust this knob. Turning it clockwise increases amplification, while counter-clockwise decreases it. The 'GAIN' indicator light will show the amplification status.
  3. Optimize Antenna Position: After the initial scan, if you are missing channels or experiencing poor signal quality, try the following:
    • Slightly adjust the antenna's position or rotate its base.
    • Re-scan for channels after each adjustment to see if reception improves.
    • Experiment with the length and angle of the telescoping antennas.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Audiobox ANT-400 antenna, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the antenna unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish or internal components.
  • Placement: Keep the antenna in a dry indoor environment. Avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or high humidity.
  • Cable Management: Ensure the coaxial cable and power adapter cable are not kinked, pinched, or under excessive tension.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your antenna, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

Problem Possible Cause Solution
No signal or very few channels found. Incorrect antenna placement, loose connections, TV not on antenna input, no channel scan performed.
  • Ensure all cables are securely connected.
  • Verify your TV is set to the correct 'Antenna' or 'Air' input.
  • Perform a full channel scan on your TV.
  • Relocate the antenna to a higher position or closer to a window.
  • Rotate the antenna 180° to face broadcast towers.
Pixelated picture or intermittent signal. Weak signal, signal interference, incorrect gain setting.
  • Adjust the gain control knob on the antenna.
  • Try slightly repositioning or rotating the antenna.
  • Ensure the telescoping antennas are fully extended and adjusted.
  • Move the antenna away from other electronic devices (e.g., Wi-Fi routers, microwaves).
Power indicator light is off. Power adapter not connected, faulty outlet.
  • Ensure the AC power adapter is securely plugged into both the antenna and a working electrical outlet.
  • Try plugging the adapter into a different outlet.
