1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the Nikon Z 8. This camera is designed for professional photographers and videographers, offering exceptional image quality, advanced autofocus, and robust video capabilities in a compact, lightweight body. This manual will guide you through the essential functions and features of your new camera.
2. Setup
2.1. Unboxing and Initial Inspection
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all items listed in the product packaging are present and undamaged. If any items are missing or damaged, please contact your retailer.
2.2. Attaching a Lens
Align the mounting mark on the lens with the mounting mark on the camera body. Rotate the lens counter-clockwise until it clicks into place. Ensure the lens is securely attached before use.

2.3. Inserting the Battery
Open the battery chamber cover located at the bottom of the camera. Insert the EN-EL15c battery with the contacts facing the correct direction, then close the cover until it latches securely.
2.4. Inserting Memory Cards
The Nikon Z 8 supports one CFexpress Type B card and one SD UHS-II card. Open the memory card slot cover on the side of the camera. Insert the cards into their respective slots until they click into place. Ensure the cards are inserted correctly to avoid damage.

3. Operating the Camera
3.1. Powering On and Basic Controls
To power on the camera, rotate the power switch around the shutter-release button. The rear LCD monitor and electronic viewfinder will activate. Familiarize yourself with the main control buttons and dials located on the camera body.

3.2. Autofocus System
The Nikon Z 8 features an advanced autofocus system with deep learning technology, capable of detecting and tracking various subjects including people, animals (dogs, cats, birds), and vehicles (cars, bikes, motorcycles, trains, planes). The system can focus in low-light conditions down to -9 EV.

3.3. Still Photography
The camera offers a 45.7MP stacked CMOS sensor for high-resolution stills. It supports various file formats including 14-bit RAW, High Efficiency RAW, 10-bit HEIF, and 8-bit JPEG. Continuous shooting is available at speeds up to 120 frames per second (JPEG only), 60 fps (JPEG), 30 fps (JPEG), and 20 fps (RAW).
3.4. Video Recording
The Z 8 is a powerful video hybrid camera, supporting internal 8K/60p and 4K/120p RAW recording, as well as 12-bit N-RAW and ProRes 422 HQ. Ensure sufficient memory card speed for high-bitrate video recording.

3.5. Connectivity
The Nikon Z 8 supports Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, USB, and HDMI connectivity. The USB-C port can be used for data transfer, charging, and connecting accessories like an Ethernet adapter for tethered shooting or live streaming.

4. Maintenance
4.1. Cleaning the Camera
Regularly clean the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. For the lens and sensor, use specialized cleaning tools and solutions. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
4.2. Storage
When not in use, store the camera in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a desiccant to prevent mold and mildew, especially in humid environments.
4.3. Weather Sealing
The Nikon Z 8 features robust weather sealing to protect against dust and moisture, making it suitable for use in various environmental conditions. However, it is not waterproof and should not be submerged.

5. Troubleshooting
5.1. Common Issues and Solutions
- Battery Drains Quickly: Ensure the battery is fully charged. Reduce screen brightness, turn off Wi-Fi/Bluetooth when not in use, and consider carrying spare batteries for extended shooting sessions.
- Autofocus Problems: Check that the lens is clean and properly attached. Ensure sufficient lighting for the scene. Update camera firmware to the latest version, as improvements are often made to AF performance.
- Overheating During Video Recording: High-resolution video recording, especially 8K, can generate significant heat. Use the camera in a well-ventilated area. Consider shorter recording clips or lower resolution/frame rate settings if continuous recording is causing issues.
- Memory Card Errors: Ensure memory cards are compatible and formatted in the camera. Avoid removing cards while the camera is writing data. Try a different card if errors persist.
