Setup Instructions

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove the UV lamp and all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage.
  2. Placement: The UV lamp must be placed in an area where its light cannot directly reach the main aquarium inhabitants. Ideal locations include:
    • Inside a dedicated filter compartment.
    • Within a sump.
    • In a separate UV sterilizer chamber.

Note: Direct placement in the main display tank with fish and plants is not recommended due to harmful UV radiation.

  3. Submersion: Ensure the UV lamp is fully submerged in water. The unit is designed to be submersible. If the unit floats, secure it with the provided suction cups or additional weights to keep it fully underwater.
  4. Mounting: Use the suction cups to securely attach the UV lamp to the inside wall of your filter compartment or sump, ensuring it is stable and fully submerged.
  5. Power Connection: Connect the power adapter to the UV lamp cable. Ensure the connection is dry and secure.
  6. Power On: Plug the power adapter into a suitable electrical outlet. The lamp should illuminate, indicating operation.

Operating Instructions

The VAYINATO Sobo UV Lamp is designed for intermittent use to effectively sterilize aquarium water.

  • Recommended Usage: Operate the UV lamp for approximately 3 hours per day. Excessive or continuous use is generally not necessary and may reduce bulb lifespan.
  • Purpose: The UV-C light works to eliminate harmful bacteria, viruses, and free-floating algae, leading to clearer and healthier water.
  • Monitoring: Observe your aquarium water clarity. If algae or cloudiness persists, ensure proper placement and check the bulb's functionality.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity of your UV lamp.

  1. Disconnect Power: Always unplug the unit from the power outlet before any maintenance.
  2. Clean Quartz Sleeve: Over time, mineral deposits or algae may accumulate on the quartz sleeve, reducing UV light penetration. Gently remove the unit from the water and carefully wipe the quartz sleeve with a soft cloth to remove any buildup. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
  3. Bulb Replacement: UV-C bulbs have a limited effective lifespan (typically 6-12 months, depending on usage). Even if the bulb still glows, its germicidal effectiveness diminishes. Replace the bulb annually or as needed. Refer to the product specifications for compatible replacement bulbs.
  4. Inspect for Damage: Periodically check the power cord, adapter, and lamp housing for any signs of damage or wear. Do not use if damaged.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Lamp does not light up.No power, faulty bulb, or damaged adapter.Check power connection. Ensure outlet is working. Replace bulb if necessary. Inspect adapter for damage.
Water remains cloudy or green.Insufficient operating time, dirty quartz sleeve, old bulb, or improper placement.Increase operating time (up to 3 hours daily). Clean quartz sleeve. Replace bulb. Ensure lamp is placed where water flows past it effectively.
Lamp floats in water. Not properly secured.Use suction cups to secure the unit firmly. If needed, add external weights to keep it submerged, ensuring they do not interfere with operation or safety.
Fish or plants show signs of stress/harm.Direct exposure to UV light.IMMEDIATELY turn off the UV lamp. Relocate the lamp to an enclosed filter compartment or sump where its light cannot directly reach the main aquarium. This is a critical safety concern.
