5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Initializing and Formatting (Windows)

If installing in a PC, the new SSD will need to be initialized and formatted before use:

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Disk Management.
  2. In the Disk Management window, you should see your new Fikwot FN970 SSD listed as an unallocated drive.
  3. Right-click on the unallocated space of the new SSD and select Initialize Disk.
  4. Choose GPT (GUID Partition Table) for modern systems and drives larger than 2TB, then click OK.
  5. Right-click on the unallocated space again and select New Simple Volume.
  6. Follow the New Simple Volume Wizard to assign a drive letter, choose a file system (NTFS is recommended for Windows), and perform a quick format.

5.2. Data Transfer and Usage

Once formatted, your Fikwot FN970 SSD is ready for use. You can transfer files, install operating systems, or store games and applications on it. For optimal performance, ensure your operating system and drivers are up to date.

6. Maintenance

Solid State Drives generally require less maintenance than traditional Hard Disk Drives. However, consider the following for optimal performance and longevity:

  • Keep Firmware Updated: Periodically check the Fikwot website for any firmware updates for your FN970 SSD. Firmware updates can improve performance, stability, and compatibility.
  • Avoid Full Capacity: While SSDs perform well even when nearly full, leaving some free space (e.g., 10-15%) can help maintain performance and extend the drive's lifespan.
  • Proper Shutdown: Always shut down your computer or console properly. Abrupt power loss can lead to data corruption.
  • Temperature Management: The included heatsink is designed to manage heat. Ensure adequate airflow within your system to prevent overheating, especially during sustained heavy workloads.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Fikwot FN970 SSD, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • SSD Not Detected:
    • Ensure the SSD is correctly seated in the M.2 slot.
    • Check your system's BIOS/UEFI settings to confirm the M.2 slot is enabled and configured correctly (e.g., NVMe mode).
    • For new installations, ensure the drive has been initialized and formatted in Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS).
  • Slow Performance:
    • Verify that your system's M.2 slot supports PCIe Gen4 speeds. If it's a Gen3 slot, the SSD will operate at Gen3 speeds.
    • Ensure your operating system and drivers are up to date.
    • Check the SSD's temperature. High temperatures can lead to thermal throttling, reducing performance. Ensure the heatsink is properly installed and there is adequate airflow.
    • Avoid running the SSD at near-full capacity.
  • Data Corruption/Errors:
    • Ensure your system has stable power.
    • Run a disk check utility (e.g., CHKDSK on Windows) to identify and repair file system errors.
    • If issues persist, consider backing up your data and performing a secure erase or reformatting the drive.

9. Safety Information

  • Always handle the SSD by its edges to avoid touching the gold connectors or components.
  • Ensure proper electrostatic discharge (ESD) precautions are taken during installation to prevent damage to the SSD or other computer components.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble the SSD or heatsink beyond the provided instructions, as this may void your warranty.
  • Keep the SSD away from moisture, extreme temperatures, and strong magnetic fields.
