Reitch CO602

Reitch CO602 Carbon Monoxide Detector User Manual

Model: CO602

1. Introduction

This manual provides essential information for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your Reitch CO602 Carbon Monoxide Detector. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure safe and effective operation. This detector is designed to monitor carbon monoxide (CO) levels and alert users to potentially dangerous concentrations.

2. Safety Information

  • Important: This carbon monoxide alarm is designed to detect carbon monoxide gas from any combustion source. It is not designed to detect smoke, fire, or other gases.
  • Placement: Proper placement is crucial for effective detection. Refer to the 'Installation' section for guidelines.
  • Testing: Test the alarm weekly to ensure proper function.
  • Alarm Response: If the alarm sounds, immediately move to fresh air and call emergency services. Do not ignore the alarm.
  • Battery Life: The provided batteries are for initial use. Replace them with high-energy density batteries for longer operational life.
  • Do Not Paint: Do not paint the detector. Paint can clog the sensor openings and interfere with the detector's ability to sense CO.

5. Setup and Installation

5.1 Battery Installation

  1. The 3 x 1.5V AA batteries are pre-installed.
  2. Before first use, remove the insulating sheet from the battery compartment.
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

5.2 Mounting Options

5.3 Placement Guidelines

Carbon monoxide gas is slightly lighter than air. For optimal detection, consider the following:

  • Install the detector at a location approximately 30 cm (12 inches) below the ceiling.
  • Place the detector between 0.5 meters and 8 meters (1.6 feet to 26 feet) from potential gas sources such as gas furnaces, water heaters, or other fuel-burning appliances.
  • Avoid placing the detector directly above cooking appliances or near ventilation openings.
  • Suitable locations include bedrooms, kitchens, living rooms, and RVs.

6. Operation

6.1 Power On and Self-Test

After battery installation and removal of the insulating sheet, the detector will perform a self-test. The LCD display will activate, and indicator lights may flash briefly.

6.2 Indicator Lights

  • Green Light: Flashes once every 30 seconds, indicating normal operation.
  • Red Light: Flashes and the buzzer alarms when the carbon monoxide concentration in the air exceeds 150 PPM.

6.3 LCD Digital Display

The LCD display shows the real-time carbon monoxide concentration in PPM. In normal conditions, it may show '0' or a very low reading. When CO is detected, the concentration will be displayed.

6.4 Alarm Conditions and Sound

  • When the carbon monoxide concentration exceeds 30 PPM, the alarm screen will light up, displaying the real-time concentration.
  • When the concentration reaches 100 PPM, the detector will immediately emit an audible alarm sound of more than 85 dB.

6.5 Test/Reset Button

Press the 'TEST/RESET' button to:

  • Test Functionality: Initiate a self-test to ensure the alarm and display are working correctly.
  • Silence Alarm: Temporarily silence the alarm if it has been triggered (only if CO levels have dropped below the alarm threshold).

7. Maintenance

7.1 Battery Replacement

When the batteries are low, the detector will typically indicate this with a specific low-battery warning (e.g., a chirp or a low-battery icon on the LCD). Replace batteries as follows:

  1. Twist the back cover of the detector counter-clockwise to open it.
  2. Remove the old 1.5V AA batteries.
  3. Insert three new 1.5V AA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  4. Close the back cover by twisting it clockwise until it locks securely.

Image: Step-by-step illustration demonstrating how to open the back cover of the Reitch CO602 detector by twisting, and how to replace the three 1.5V AA batteries.

7.2 Cleaning

Clean the detector regularly to prevent dust buildup from affecting its performance.

  • Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the exterior.
  • Do not use cleaning sprays, solvents, or abrasive cleaners.
  • Do not paint the detector.

7.3 Regular Testing

Test the detector weekly by pressing the 'TEST/RESET' button to ensure the alarm and display are functioning correctly.

8. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Detector does not power on.Batteries not installed correctly or insulating sheet not removed. Batteries are dead.Ensure batteries are inserted with correct polarity and insulating sheet is removed. Replace with new batteries.
Alarm sounds without apparent CO source.False alarm due to high humidity, chemical fumes, or sensor malfunction.Ventilate the area. Press the 'RESET' button. If alarms persist without a known CO source, the unit may be faulty and should be replaced.
Low battery warning (chirp/icon).Batteries are running low.Replace all three 1.5V AA batteries immediately.
LCD display is blank or unreadable.Low battery or unit malfunction.Replace batteries. If the issue persists, the unit may need replacement.
