Model: ESLRV400P7FA

1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the proper installation, operation, and maintenance of your SHIMANO Tourney SL-RV400 Revoshift Twist Shifter Set. This 3x7 speed shifter set is designed for reliable gear changes on bicycles, featuring an optical gear display for easy gear position identification.

Please read this manual thoroughly before use to ensure correct assembly and safe operation. Keep this manual for future reference.

2. Safety Information

  • Always wear appropriate safety gear, including gloves and eye protection, during installation and maintenance.
  • Ensure all components are securely fastened before riding. Loose parts can lead to accidents.
  • If you are unsure about any installation or adjustment procedure, consult a professional bicycle mechanic.
  • Regularly inspect your bicycle's shifting system for wear and damage. Replace worn components promptly.
  • Keep hands and clothing clear of moving parts, especially the chain and gears, during operation and adjustment.

  • Front Shifter Cable (1800mm)
  • Rear Shifter Cable (2050mm)
  • Cable End Caps

4. Installation

4.1 Tools Required (Not Included)

  • Hex wrenches (various sizes, typically 4mm, 5mm)
  • Cable cutters
  • Pliers
  • Grease

4.2 Attaching the Shifters to Handlebars

  1. Remove existing shifters and grips from the handlebars.
  2. Slide the new SHIMANO Revoshift shifters onto the handlebars. The left shifter is for the front derailleur (3-speed), and the right shifter is for the rear derailleur (7-speed).
  3. Position the shifters comfortably, ensuring easy access to the twist mechanism.
  4. Tighten the shifter clamp bolts securely. Do not overtighten.
  5. Install your bicycle grips next to the shifters.

4.3 Cable Installation and Routing

  1. Ensure the shifters are in their highest gear position (smallest number on the optical display for front, largest for rear).
  2. Insert the shifter cable head into the designated slot on the shifter body.
  3. Route the cable through the shifter's internal mechanism and out the cable housing stop.
  4. Route the cable through the appropriate cable housing and frame guides towards the front and rear derailleurs. Ensure smooth bends and no kinks in the housing.
  5. Attach the cable to the front and rear derailleurs according to the derailleur manufacturer's instructions. Pull the cable taut and secure it with the derailleur's pinch bolt.
  6. Cut excess cable, leaving approximately 2-3 cm (1 inch) beyond the pinch bolt. Crimp a cable end cap onto the cut end to prevent fraying.

4.4 Adjustment

After cable installation, fine-tune the shifting performance. This typically involves adjusting cable tension using the barrel adjusters on the shifters or derailleurs, and setting the high and low limit screws on the derailleurs. Refer to your derailleur's specific manual for detailed adjustment procedures.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Shifting Gears

  • To Shift to a Higher Gear (Harder Pedaling): Twist the Revoshift grip forward (towards the front of the bike). The optical gear display will show a higher number.
  • To Shift to a Lower Gear (Easier Pedaling): Twist the Revoshift grip backward (towards the rider). The optical gear display will show a lower number.
  • Always pedal lightly while shifting to ensure smooth and efficient gear changes and to prevent damage to the drivetrain components.

5.2 Optical Gear Display

The integrated optical gear display provides a visual indication of the current gear selected. This allows you to quickly ascertain your gear position without looking down at the cassette or chainrings.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning

  • Regularly clean the shifters and surrounding handlebar area with a damp cloth.
  • Avoid using high-pressure washers directly on the shifters, as this can force water and contaminants into the mechanism.

6.2 Cable Inspection and Replacement

  • Periodically inspect shifter cables and housing for signs of fraying, rust, or damage.
  • Worn or damaged cables and housing can significantly degrade shifting performance. Replace them as needed.
  • For optimal performance, it is recommended to replace shifter cables and housing annually or more frequently depending on riding conditions and usage.

6.3 Lubrication

While the internal mechanism of Revoshift shifters is generally sealed, a small amount of light lubricant can be applied to the cable entry points if friction is detected. Avoid over-lubrication, which can attract dirt.
