1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the FITNMORE PARKSIDE® PTBM 400 Bench Drill. This manual provides essential information for the safe operation, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your new tool. Please read this manual thoroughly before initial use and keep it for future reference.
1.1 Safety Instructions
WARNING: Always disconnect the power supply before performing any adjustments, maintenance, or when the machine is not in use. Failure to do so can result in serious injury or death.
- Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves.
- Ensure the work area is clean, well-lit, and free from obstructions.
- Secure the workpiece firmly before drilling.
- Do not operate the drill if you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or medication.
- Keep children and bystanders away from the operating area.
2. Setup
Proper setup is crucial for the safe and efficient operation of your bench drill.
2.1 Unpacking and Inspection
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any damage that may have occurred during transit. If any parts are damaged or missing, do not operate the machine and contact customer support.
2.2 Workbench Mounting
The PTBM 400 features a steel base designed for secure mounting to a workbench. Position the drill press on a stable, level surface. Use appropriate bolts and nuts (not included) to firmly secure the base to your workbench through the pre-drilled holes.
2.3 Chuck Installation
The high-quality drill chuck (B16, 1.5–13 mm) is supplied with a chuck key. Insert the chuck onto the tapered spindle and firmly tap it into place with a rubber mallet to ensure a secure fit. Always use the chuck key to tighten drill bits securely.
2.4 Table Adjustment
The drill table can be adjusted in height and angled from -45° to +45°. Loosen the table locking knob, adjust to the desired height or angle using the degree scale, and then firmly tighten the knob to secure the table in position.

3. Operating
Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your bench drill.
3.1 Powering On/Off
- To Power On: Press the protected ON/OFF switch.
- To Power Off: Press the protected ON/OFF switch again.
- Emergency Stop: In case of an emergency, press the frontal emergency stop button. This will immediately cut power to the machine.
3.2 Adjusting Drilling Speed
The drill features a belt drive with 5 adjustable drilling speeds (600-2650 min⁻¹). To change the speed, disconnect the power, open the gear housing (which activates a safety shutdown), adjust the belt position on the pulleys according to the desired speed, and then close the housing securely. The safety shutdown ensures the machine cannot operate with the housing open.
3.3 Setting Drilling Depth
The drilling depth is continuously adjustable and includes a scale for precision. Loosen the depth stop knob, adjust the depth stop to the desired measurement, and then tighten the knob to secure it. The drill stroke is 0–50 mm.
3.4 Using Laser Guides
Two lasers are integrated for freely adjustable marking, aiding in precise hole positioning. Activate the lasers and align them with your desired drilling point on the workpiece.
3.5 Securing Workpiece with Vice
An adjustable vice is included to securely hold your workpiece during drilling. Always ensure the workpiece is clamped firmly to prevent movement and potential injury.
3.6 Spindle Return and Chip Guard
The comfortable lowering lever features spring-return feedback for smooth operation. A foldable chip guard made of transparent material is provided for safety. Always ensure the chip guard is in place during operation to protect against flying debris.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your drill press.
- Cleaning: After each use, clean the machine of dust, chips, and debris. Use a brush or compressed air. Do not use solvents that may damage plastic parts.
- Lubrication: Periodically lubricate moving parts as indicated in the diagram (refer to product diagram if available, otherwise general advice).
- Inspection: Regularly inspect the power cord for damage, and check all nuts, bolts, and screws for tightness. Ensure the chuck is securely attached.
- Safety Shutdown: Verify the safety shutdown mechanism for the gear housing is functioning correctly. The machine should not operate when the housing is open.
