4. Operating Your Grill

4.1 Ignition and Burners

Your Broil King Crown 310 grill features 3 patented Dual-Tube Burners, designed to provide consistent and powerful heat across the entire cooking surface. To ignite, ensure the LP gas cylinder is full and connected properly. Ensure gas is flowing. Push and turn a control knob to the HIGH position, then press the electronic ignition button until the burner ignites. Repeat for additional burners.

4.2 Flav-R-Wave Cooking System

Beneath the cooking grids is the stainless steel Flav-R-Wave cooking system. This system is designed to vaporize drippings, infusing that rich barbecue flavor back into your food. It also protects the burners from grease and food debris, extending their lifespan.

4.3 Heavy-Duty Cast Iron Cooking Grids

The heavy-duty cast iron cooking grids are reversible, offering two distinct cooking surfaces. One side features pointed ridges for creating perfect sear marks on steaks and other meats. The other side has grooves designed to capture juices, continuously basting your food for enhanced flavor and moisture.

You can also angle the grids to channel excess juices away from the burners and into the grease tray, minimizing flare-ups and making cleanup easier.

4.4 Precise Temperature Control

The linear flow valves with 180-degree control knobs provide infinite heat control, allowing you to set your grill to the perfect temperature for searing, roasting, or slow cooking. The built-in deluxe thermometer on the lid provides precise temperature readings inside the cook box.

5. Maintenance and Care

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your Broil King grill.

  • Cooking Grids: After each use, preheat the grill on high for 10-15 minutes to burn off any food residue. Then, brush the grids clean with a stiff wire brush. For cast iron grids, occasional seasoning with cooking oil can prevent rust.
  • Flav-R-Wave: Periodically remove the cooking grids and brush off any accumulated debris from the Flav-R-Wave system.
  • Grease Tray: Regularly check and empty the grease tray located beneath the cook box. A clean grease tray prevents grease fires and keeps your grill clean.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Clean exterior surfaces with warm, soapy water. For stainless steel components, use a stainless steel cleaner.
  • Burners: Inspect burner ports annually for blockages (e.g., spider webs). Clean with a wire brush or pipe cleaner if necessary.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your grill, refer to the following common troubleshooting tips:

  • Burner Not Lighting: Check if the LP cylinder is full and connected properly. Ensure gas is flowing. Check the electronic igniter for a spark. Clean burner ports if clogged.
  • Uneven Heat: Ensure all burner ports are clear. Check for proper placement of Flav-R-Wave components.
  • Low Flame: This could indicate a low gas level in the LP cylinder or a tripped over-fill protection device. Reset the regulator by turning off all burners, disconnecting the regulator from the tank, waiting 30 seconds, and reconnecting.
  • Flare-ups: Excessive flare-ups are often caused by accumulated grease. Clean the Flav-R-Wave and grease tray. Trim excess fat from meats before grilling.
