Setup
1. Attaching the Reel to the Rod
- Align the reel foot with the reel seat on your fishing rod.
- Tighten the reel seat's locking mechanism securely until the reel is firmly attached and does not wobble.

2. Spooling Fishing Line
Ensure the fishing line is spooled evenly and tightly onto the reel's aluminum spool. Refer to the line capacity specifications for recommended line diameters and lengths.
- Open the bail arm.
- Tie the fishing line to the spool using an arbor knot or similar secure knot.
- Close the bail arm and begin winding the line onto the spool, keeping slight tension on the line to ensure even winding.
- Fill the spool to approximately 1/8 inch (3mm) from the rim to prevent tangles and ensure optimal casting distance.

3. Handle Installation/Interchange
The handle can be installed on either the left or right side of the reel to suit your preference.
- Unscrew the handle cap on the desired side.
- Insert the handle shaft into the main gear opening.
- Screw the handle cap back on tightly to secure the handle.
Operating Instructions
1. Casting
- Hold the rod and reel comfortably.
- Press the line against the rod with your index finger.
- Open the bail arm.
- Swing the rod forward, releasing your finger from the line at the peak of the forward motion to allow the lure/bait to fly.
- As the lure/bait approaches the water, close the bail arm manually or by turning the handle to prepare for retrieval.

2. Retrieval
Turn the handle clockwise (or counter-clockwise if left-handed) to retrieve the line. The 5.1:1 gear ratio provides efficient line retrieval.
3. Drag System (Front and Double Drag)
The reel features both a front drag and a baitrunner (double) drag system. The front drag controls the main spool tension, while the baitrunner drag allows fish to take line freely until disengaged.
- Front Drag: Adjust the knob on the front of the spool to increase or decrease tension. Tighten for more drag, loosen for less. Set the drag appropriate for your line strength and target fish.
- Baitrunner Drag: Engage the baitrunner lever (usually located at the rear of the reel) to activate the secondary drag system. This allows fish to run with the bait without feeling resistance. To disengage, simply turn the main handle, which will switch back to the primary front drag.

4. Anti-Reverse Brake System
The anti-reverse system prevents the handle from rotating backward, ensuring solid hook sets and control during a fight. This feature is automatically engaged when the reel is in operation.

Maintenance
Regular maintenance will extend the life and performance of your ATLAS Baitrunner Reel.
1. Cleaning
- After each use, especially in saltwater environments, rinse the reel with fresh water. Do not submerge the reel.
- Wipe down the reel with a soft, clean cloth to remove dirt, salt, and debris.
- Use a cotton swab or small brush to clean hard-to-reach areas.
- Ensure the reel is completely dry before storage.
2. Lubrication
- Periodically apply a small amount of reel oil to moving parts such as the handle shaft, bail arm pivot points, and line roller.
- Apply a thin layer of reel grease to the main gear and worm shaft (if accessible) for smooth operation.
- Avoid over-lubrication, as this can attract dirt and debris.
3. Storage
- Store the reel in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Consider using a reel cover or case to protect it from dust and physical damage.
- Loosen the drag knob slightly during storage to relieve pressure on the drag washers.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Stiff or Grinding Handle | Lack of lubrication, dirt/debris in gears, damaged bearings. | Clean and lubricate moving parts. If problem persists, inspect bearings for damage. |
| Line Tangles or Backlashes | Over-spooled line, uneven line winding, improper casting technique, worn line. | Remove excess line. Re-spool line evenly. Practice casting. Replace old line. |
| Drag Slips or Sticks | Dirty or worn drag washers, improper drag setting. | Clean drag washers. Adjust drag knob correctly. Replace worn washers if necessary. |
| Bail Arm Not Closing Properly | Debris in bail mechanism, bent bail arm. | Clean the bail arm pivot points. Gently straighten a bent bail arm or seek professional repair. |
