3. Setup
3.1 Mandrel and Nosepiece Identification
The kit includes M5 (0.8mm pitch) and M6 (1mm pitch) mandrels and nosepieces. Each component is labeled for easy identification. The storage box is also color-coded and labeled to help organize the different sizes.
3.2 Installing/Replacing Mandrels and Nosepieces
To change or install a mandrel and nosepiece, follow these steps:
- Unscrew the existing nosepiece from the tool head.
- Remove the old mandrel by unscrewing it.
- Select the desired new mandrel (e.g., M5 or M6) and screw it into the tool head until secure.
- Thread the corresponding nosepiece onto the mandrel and tighten it by hand.

4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Installing Rivet Nuts
Once the correct mandrel and nosepiece are installed, follow these steps to install a rivet nut:
- Open the tool handles completely.
- Thread a rivet nut onto the mandrel until it is snug.
- Insert the rivet nut into the pre-drilled hole in your workpiece.
- Squeeze the tool handles firmly to set the rivet nut. Continue squeezing until the rivet nut is perfectly done and securely fastened.
- Unscrew the knob to release the tool from the installed rivet nut.

Figure 4: This image illustrates the four main steps for installing a rivet nut: opening the handle and inserting the rivnut, inserting it into the hole, squeezing the handle to rivet, and unscrewing the knob to release.

Figure 5: A simplified visual guide showing the process of screwing on the rivnut, inserting it into the workpiece, closing the handle to deform it, and then continuously opening and closing the handle to release the rivnut, followed by adding an attachment.
4.2 Choosing the Correct Mandrel, Rivnut, and Drill Step
Refer to the table below for guidance on selecting the appropriate mandrel, rivet nut, and drill bit size based on workpiece thickness. It is recommended to use aluminum and carbon steel rivnuts with this tool.

Figure 6: This table provides recommended mandrel numbers, workpiece thickness ranges (mm), and corresponding hole/drill sizes (mm) for various rivet nut sizes (M3, M4, M5, M6, 6-32, 8-32, 10-24, 1/4-20).

5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: After each use, wipe down the tool with a clean, dry cloth to remove any debris or residue.
- Lubrication: Periodically apply a small amount of light machine oil to the moving parts and threads of the mandrel to ensure smooth operation.
- Storage: Store the tool and all accessories in the provided color-coded box in a dry, clean environment to prevent rust and damage.
- Mandrel Replacement: Mandrels are consumable parts and may wear out over time, especially with frequent use or improper application. Inspect mandrels regularly for signs of wear or damage and replace them as needed.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Rivet Nut Not Setting Properly
- Incorrect Mandrel/Nosepiece Size: Ensure the mandrel and nosepiece match the size of the rivet nut being used. Refer to Section 4.2.
- Insufficient Squeeze: Apply firm and consistent pressure to the tool handles until the rivet nut is fully set.
- Worn Mandrel: If the mandrel is worn, it may not properly grip the rivet nut. Inspect the mandrel and replace if necessary.
6.2 Mandrel Breakage
- Uneven Pressure: Avoid applying pressure at an angle. Ensure the tool is perpendicular to the workpiece.
- Over-tightening: Do not over-tighten the rivet nut beyond its required setting.
- Using with Harder Materials: While the mandrels are durable, excessive force on very hard materials or using an undersized drill hole can cause breakage.
- Defective Rivet Nut: Occasionally, a rivet nut may be defective. Try another rivet nut from the kit.
