  • Reliable Click-Stop Mechanism: Provides an audible "Click" and a tactile sensation when the pre-set torque value is reached. This indicates when to stop applying force, ensuring secure fastening. Note that torque values below 5 Nm (44.25 in-lb) may produce a subtle click requiring careful attention.
  • Dual-Direction and Quick Release: Equipped with a reversible 72-tooth ratchet head for both clockwise and counterclockwise operation. The quick-release button mechanism allows for secure attachment and rapid swapping of sockets and bits.

  • High Quality and Durable Construction: The ratchet head is constructed from hardened Cr-V Steel, and the handle is made from high-grade aerospace aluminum. This combination ensures durability, rust resistance, and corrosion resistance for long-term use.

4. Setup

Before using the torque wrench, ensure you select the correct bit socket or adapter for your application.

  1. Attaching Sockets/Bits: Press the quick-release button on the ratchet head. Insert the desired bit socket or adapter firmly onto the square drive. Release the button to lock the accessory in place. Ensure it is securely seated before use.

Torque wrench with a universal joint attached
Image 9: Attaching a universal joint for angled access.
  3. Setting Torque Value:
    • Unlock the handle by rotating the knurled knob at the end of the handle counter-clockwise.
    • Rotate the handle to align the desired main torque value (e.g., 10 Nm) on the main scale with the center line.
    • Adjust the micro-adjustment scale by rotating the handle until the desired fine adjustment (e.g., 0.5 Nm) aligns with the center line. The total torque will be the sum of the main scale and micro-adjustment scale values (e.g., 10 Nm + 0.5 Nm = 10.5 Nm).
    • Lock the handle by rotating the knurled knob clockwise until it is tight.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for proper operation of your torque wrench:

  1. Ensure the torque wrench is set to the correct torque value for your application. Refer to the manufacturer's specifications for the item you are working on.
  2. Place the socket or bit onto the fastener (bolt or nut).
  3. Apply steady, increasing force to the handle in the tightening direction (clockwise for most fasteners). Do not use sudden jerking motions.
  4. Continue applying force until you hear and/or feel a distinct "Click" from the wrench. This indicates that the pre-set torque has been reached. Immediately stop applying force once the click occurs.
  5. Torque wrench in use on an engine, showing the audible click sound indicator
Image 10: The torque wrench in action, illustrating the audible click sound that signals when the target torque is achieved.
  6. For torque values below 5 Nm (44.25 in-lb), the click may be subtle. Exercise extra caution and pay close attention to the tactile feedback to avoid over-tightening.
  7. After use, always reset the torque wrench to its lowest setting (1 Nm or 10 in.lb) before storing. This relieves tension on the internal spring mechanism, preserving its accuracy and extending its lifespan.

6. Safety Precautions

  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses.
  • Do not use the torque wrench as a standard ratchet or for breaking loose seized fasteners. This can damage the internal mechanism and affect accuracy.
  • Never exceed the maximum torque capacity of the wrench (25 Nm / 222.5 in.lb).
  • Keep the torque wrench clean and free from oil, grease, or other contaminants that could affect grip or accuracy.
  • Ensure the socket or bit is fully engaged with the fastener to prevent slipping and potential injury.
  • Do not drop the torque wrench, as this can compromise its calibration. If dropped, consider having it recalibrated.

7. Maintenance and Storage

  • Cleaning: Wipe the torque wrench with a clean, dry cloth after each use. Do not use solvents or harsh chemicals, as they may damage the finish or internal components.
  • Lubrication: The internal mechanism is factory-lubricated and generally does not require user lubrication.
  • Storage: Store the torque wrench in its protective case in a dry, clean environment, away from extreme temperatures and humidity. Always reset the torque setting to the lowest value (1 Nm) before storage to relieve spring tension.
  • Recalibration: It is recommended to have the torque wrench recalibrated periodically, especially after heavy use or if accuracy is suspected to be compromised.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Audible Click at Low Torque Settings:
    • Issue: The click sound is very faint or not heard when tightening at lower torque values (e.g., below 5 Nm).
    • Solution: This is a characteristic of many click-type torque wrenches at their lower range. At these settings, the click is often more subtle and may be primarily felt rather than heard. Apply force slowly and steadily, paying close attention to the tactile feedback through the handle. Practice on a non-critical fastener to familiarize yourself with the feel of the click at low settings.
  • Inaccurate Torque Readings:
    • Issue: Fasteners are either too tight or too loose despite setting the correct torque.
    • Solution: Ensure the handle is locked after setting the torque. Verify that the correct torque value is being used for the specific fastener. Avoid sudden jerking motions during operation. If accuracy issues persist, the wrench may require recalibration.
  • Socket/Bit Not Staying Attached:
    • Issue: Sockets or bits fall off the square drive during use.
    • Solution: Ensure the quick-release button is fully released after attaching the accessory, allowing it to lock into place. Check for any debris or damage to the square drive or the socket/bit that might prevent a secure connection.
