2. Setup

2.1 Unpacking and Inspection

Carefully remove the receiver from its packaging. Inspect the receiver for any visible damage. If any damage is found, do not proceed with setup and contact your retailer.

2.2 Power Supply Requirements

  • Rated Power Supply: 3.7 - 7.4 V (batteries not included).
  • Working Voltage Range: 3.5 - 8.4 V.
  • This product does not include batteries or a charger. Ensure your power source meets these specifications.

2.3 Antenna Installation

The R7308SB features a diversity-style sleeve antenna. For optimal performance, ensure the antennas are positioned at a 90-degree angle to each other and are not obstructed by carbon fiber, metal, or other conductive materials. Avoid bending the antenna tips sharply.

2.4 Connecting the Receiver

The R7308SB supports S.BUS2 input/output and conventional system output (channels 1-8). Connect your servos and other components to the appropriate ports as indicated on the receiver body.

  • S.BUS2 Port: For connecting S.BUS2 compatible devices.
  • Conventional Ports (1-8): For standard PWM servos and devices.
  • External Voltage Port: A standard connector for monitoring external voltage (0~70VDC).

2.5 Binding (Linking) the Receiver

To establish communication between the receiver and your Futaba FASSTest 2.4GHz transmitter, a binding procedure is required. Refer to your transmitter's instruction manual for specific binding steps. Generally, this involves placing both the transmitter and receiver into a binding mode. The receiver's LED indicator will confirm successful binding.

3. Operating

3.1 FASSTest 2.4GHz System

The R7308SB operates on the FASSTest 2.4GHz system, supporting both 18-channel and 12-channel modes. Ensure your transmitter is set to a compatible mode.

3.2 S.BUS2 Functionality

The S.BUS2 system allows for two-way communication, enabling telemetry functions with compatible sensors (sold separately). Connect S.BUS2 devices to the designated S.BUS2 port.

3.3 Battery Failsafe (F/S) Voltage Setting

The Battery Failsafe voltage can be set from your transmitter. This feature ensures that if the receiver's voltage drops below a set threshold, the system will activate failsafe settings (e.g., throttle to idle, servos to a predetermined position) to prevent loss of control. Consult your transmitter's manual for instructions on setting the F/S voltage.

3.4 External Voltage Monitoring

The receiver includes a standard connector for an external voltage port, allowing monitoring of voltages from 0 to 70VDC. This is useful for monitoring main battery voltage in your model.

4. Maintenance

The Futaba R7308SB receiver is a precision electronic device. Proper care will ensure its longevity and reliable performance.

  • Keep the receiver clean and free from dust, dirt, and moisture.
  • Avoid exposing the receiver to extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for prolonged periods.
  • Do not attempt to open the receiver casing, as this may void any warranty and could damage internal components.
  • Ensure all connections are secure before each use.
  • This product does not use or include batteries, fuel, chargers, paint, glue, oil, or grease, therefore no maintenance related to these items is required for the receiver itself.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your R7308SB receiver, consider the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Signal/Loss of Control:
    • Verify that the receiver is properly bound to the transmitter. Re-bind if necessary.
    • Check the power supply to the receiver. Ensure voltage is within the specified working range (3.5-8.4V).
    • Inspect antenna placement. Ensure they are not damaged, obstructed, or improperly routed.
    • Check for potential radio interference from other electronic devices.
  • Servos Not Responding:
    • Ensure servos are correctly plugged into the appropriate channels (1-8 or S.BUS2).
    • Check servo connections for looseness or incorrect polarity.
    • Test servos with a different receiver or servo tester to rule out servo issues.
  • Failsafe Activation:
    • If failsafe activates unexpectedly, check the receiver's input voltage. It may be dropping below the set F/S voltage.
    • Review your transmitter's Failsafe settings.

For persistent issues, consult the Futaba support resources or contact your retailer.
