2. Installation Guide
Replacing your vacuum cleaner belts is a straightforward process. Follow these steps carefully to ensure proper installation and restore your vacuum's performance.
2.1. Safety Precautions
- Always unplug the vacuum cleaner from the power outlet before attempting any maintenance or belt replacement.
- Ensure the vacuum cleaner is cool and stable before proceeding.
2.2. Step-by-Step Replacement
- Remove the Vacuum Cleaner Cover: Carefully detach the bottom plate or cover of your vacuum cleaner to access the brush roll and belts.
- Remove the Old 38528035 Belt: Locate the wider, flat belt (38528035). With the rotating brush removed, grasp the old drive belt and carefully remove it from the motor pulley.
- Remove the Old 38528034 Belt: Identify the narrower, round belt (38528034). Remove it from its position, noting its path around the brush roll and motor.
- Install the New 38528035 Belt: Place the new wider drive belt (38528035) over the motor pulley. Loop the other end over the rotating floor brush in the space between the bristles.
- Install the New 38528034 Belt: Position the new narrower belt (38528034) around the brush roll and motor pulley, ensuring it is seated correctly.
- Position the Brush Roll: With both new drive belts connected to the motor pulley, pull the belts over the brush roll and carefully position the floor brush back into its cover ends. Ensure the brush roll spins freely.
- Reattach the Cover: Securely reattach the vacuum cleaner's bottom plate or cover.

3. Operation After Belt Replacement
After successfully replacing the vacuum belts, plug in your vacuum cleaner and perform a test run. Listen for any unusual noises and observe if the brush roll is spinning correctly. The vacuum should now operate with restored suction and brush agitation.

4. Maintenance and Replacement Schedule
Vacuum cleaner belts are subject to wear and tear due to regular use. To maintain optimal performance of your Hoover Self Propelled Windtunnel vacuum cleaner, it is recommended to replace both the 38528034 roller brush belt and the 38528035 power drive belt every 3 to 9 months. This preventative maintenance helps ensure consistent cleaning power and extends the life of your appliance.
5. Troubleshooting Common Issues
If your vacuum cleaner is not performing as expected after belt replacement, consider the following common issues:
- Brush Roll Not Spinning: Ensure both belts are correctly seated on the motor pulley and brush roll. Check for any obstructions (hair, debris) wrapped around the brush roll or pulleys.
- Reduced Suction: While belts primarily affect brush roll agitation, a severely worn or improperly installed belt can indirectly impact overall cleaning. Check for proper belt tension. Also, ensure the vacuum bag/canister is not full and filters are clean.
- Burning Smell: A burning smell immediately after replacement often indicates that a belt is either improperly installed, too tight, or the brush roll is jammed. Immediately unplug the vacuum and inspect the belts and brush roll for issues.
- Loud Noise: Unusual noises can indicate a misaligned belt or a foreign object caught in the brush roll mechanism. Disassemble and re-inspect the installation.
If issues persist, consult your vacuum cleaner's original instruction manual or contact a qualified service technician.
