Installation Instructions
Tools Required: Screwdriver, wire strippers, wire connectors (not included with igniter), multimeter (optional for testing).
- Disconnect Power and Gas: Locate your oven's circuit breaker and turn off the power. Turn off the gas supply valve to the oven.
- Access the Igniter: Depending on your oven model, you may need to remove the oven door, oven racks, bottom panel, or broiler drawer to access the burner assembly and igniter. Refer to your oven's specific service manual for detailed access instructions.
- Locate the Old Igniter: The igniter is typically mounted near the burner tube. Note its position and how it is wired.
- Disconnect Old Igniter: Carefully disconnect the wires leading to the old igniter. If the old igniter uses a terminal block, you will need to cut the wires and splice the new igniter's wires to the existing adapter.
- Remove Old Igniter: Unscrew or unclip the old igniter from its mounting bracket.
- Install New Igniter: Mount the new Samoser igniter in the same position as the old one, ensuring it is securely fastened.
- Wire the New Igniter: This igniter does not come with a terminal adapter. You must splice the new igniter's wires to the existing oven wiring adapter.
- Cut the wires of the old igniter, leaving enough length on the oven's wiring harness to work with.
- Strip approximately 1/2 inch of insulation from the ends of the new igniter's wires and the oven's wiring harness.
- Using appropriate wire connectors (e.g., ceramic wire nuts, crimp connectors), securely connect the wires of the new igniter to the corresponding wires of the oven's wiring harness. Ensure a tight and secure connection.
- Ensure no bare wires are exposed to prevent short circuits.

Image: Rear view of the Samoser Gas Range Oven Burner Igniter, showing the wiring and mounting points. Note the absence of a terminal block, requiring wire splicing.
- Reassemble Oven: Carefully reassemble any panels or parts that were removed to access the igniter.
- Restore Power and Gas: Turn on the gas supply valve and restore electrical power to the oven.
- Test Operation: Turn on the oven to a bake setting and observe the igniter. It should glow red and then ignite the gas burner. Check for proper flame distribution.
- Check for Gas Leaks: After restoring gas, apply a soap and water solution to all gas connections. If bubbles appear, there is a leak. Turn off the gas immediately and tighten connections or re-seal as necessary.
Operation
Once correctly installed, the igniter functions automatically as part of your oven's normal operation. When the oven is set to a bake or broil temperature, the igniter will receive power, heat up, and glow red. This heat then ignites the gas flowing from the burner. The igniter continues to draw current to maintain the gas valve open until the desired temperature is reached or the oven is turned off.
Maintenance
The gas oven igniter is a wear-and-tear component and generally does not require routine maintenance. However, to ensure optimal performance and longevity:
- Keep the oven interior clean to prevent grease or food debris from accumulating on the igniter or burner.
- Avoid harsh chemical cleaners near the igniter, as they can damage the ceramic element.
- If the igniter appears damaged or cracked, it should be replaced immediately.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Oven not heating / Igniter not glowing | No power to oven; faulty igniter; faulty oven control board. | Check circuit breaker. Verify igniter wiring. Test igniter for continuity/resistance (should be between 100-1000 ohms). Replace igniter if faulty. Consult a technician for control board issues. |
| Igniter glows but gas does not ignite | Weak igniter; gas supply issue; faulty gas valve. | Ensure gas supply is on. A weak igniter may not draw enough current to open the gas valve; replace igniter. Consult a technician for gas valve issues. |
| Oven takes too long to heat | Weak igniter. | The igniter may be failing and not heating sufficiently to open the gas valve quickly. Replace igniter. |
For complex issues or if you are uncomfortable performing repairs, it is recommended to contact a qualified appliance repair technician.
