Setup

1. Unboxing and Initial Inspection

Upon receiving your Bulova Marine Star 98A302, carefully remove it from its packaging. Inspect the watch for any visible damage or defects. Ensure all protective films are removed from the crystal, case back, and bracelet.

2. Winding the Watch

Your Bulova Marine Star 98A302 is an automatic watch, meaning it is powered by the motion of your wrist. However, for initial setup or if the watch has stopped due to lack of wear, it requires manual winding.

  1. Locate the crown on the right side of the watch case.
  2. Ensure the crown is in its fully pushed-in position (Position 0).
  3. Turn the crown clockwise approximately 20-30 times. This will build up a power reserve and start the movement.
  4. Once started, normal daily wear will keep the watch wound. If worn regularly (8-10 hours a day), manual winding may not be necessary.

3. Setting the Time

  1. Pull the crown out to Position 1 (the outermost position). The second hand will stop.
  2. Turn the crown clockwise or counter-clockwise to set the hour and minute hands to the desired time.
  3. Once the time is set, push the crown back into Position 0. The second hand will resume movement.

Operating Instructions

Wearing the Watch

Ensure the watch is worn snugly but comfortably on your wrist. An automatic watch relies on wrist movement to wind its mainspring. Consistent wear helps maintain its power reserve.

Power Reserve

The watch has a power reserve that allows it to continue running for a period even when not worn. If the watch stops, simply follow the winding instructions in the "Setup" section.

Maintenance and Care

Cleaning

To maintain the appearance of your watch, wipe the case and bracelet regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, a slightly damp cloth can be used, followed by immediate drying. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.

Water Resistance

The Bulova Marine Star 98A302 is designed with water resistance. Always ensure the crown is fully pushed in before exposing the watch to water. While designed for water exposure, avoid operating the crown or pushers when the watch is wet.

Storage

When not wearing your watch for extended periods, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. The original watch box is ideal for storage.

Service

For optimal performance, it is recommended to have your automatic watch serviced by an authorized Bulova service center every 3-5 years. This includes cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment of the movement.
