3. Installation Guide
The Mbotnee Barrel Bolt Latch offers versatile installation options, supporting various orientations (left, right, vertical, or horizontal) and two primary methods depending on your application.
3.1 General Installation Steps
- Determine the desired mounting location and orientation for the latch on your door or gate.
- Position the main latch body on the door frame.
- Mark the screw hole positions through the latch body onto the door frame.
- Pre-drill pilot holes at the marked positions. For wooden surfaces, use appropriate drill bit size. For masonry or other hard surfaces, use the provided expansion tubes and a suitable drill bit.
- Secure the latch body to the door frame using the provided screws.
- Align the bolt with the corresponding strike plate or dust canister location on the door or floor.
- Mark the mounting holes for the strike plate or the position for the dust canister.
- Install the strike plate or dust canister according to the specific method below.
3.2 Installation Method 1: Door Lock Body with Dust Canister (for bottom/top installation)
This method is ideal for securing the door to the floor or ceiling. The dust canister prevents debris from entering the bolt receiver hole.
- Mount the door lock body using 4 screws.
- Drill a hole for the dust canister. The dust canister requires a hole with a width of approximately 13/16" (20mm) and a depth of 1-8/16" (38mm).
- Insert the dust canister into the drilled hole.

3.3 Installation Method 2: Door Lock Body with Bolt Receiver (for horizontal installation)
This method is suitable for securing the door horizontally to a frame or adjacent surface.
- Mount the door lock body using 8 screws.
- Mount the bolt receiver (strike plate) on the opposing surface, ensuring proper alignment with the bolt.

4. Operation
To operate the Mbotnee Barrel Bolt Latch:
- To lock the door: Slide the bolt into the receiver (either the dust canister or the strike plate) until it is fully engaged.
- To unlock the door: Pull the knob on the bolt to retract it from the receiver.
For added security, a padlock can be inserted through the designated hole on the bolt mechanism when in the locked position. This prevents the bolt from being retracted.

5. Maintenance
The Mbotnee Barrel Bolt Latch is constructed from 304 stainless steel, requiring minimal maintenance.
- Cleaning: Wipe the latch periodically with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and dirt. For stubborn grime, a mild soap solution can be used, followed by rinsing with clean water and drying thoroughly.
- Lubrication: If the bolt mechanism becomes stiff over time, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the sliding parts. Avoid oil-based lubricants as they can attract dirt.
- Inspection: Regularly check all screws for tightness. Re-tighten if necessary to ensure the latch remains securely mounted.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Mbotnee Barrel Bolt Latch, consider the following:
- Bolt does not slide smoothly:
- Check for any obstructions in the bolt path or receiver.
- Clean the bolt and receiver area.
- Apply a silicone-based lubricant to the sliding mechanism.
- Latch feels loose after installation:
- Ensure all mounting screws are fully tightened.
- Verify that the screws are appropriate for the mounting surface and that pilot holes were correctly drilled.
- Dust canister spring too stiff (if applicable):
- This is a design characteristic. If the spring tension is problematic for your specific application, consider alternative mounting methods or modifications if feasible.
