iFi IFILANISILENCER

iFi LAN iSilencer Instruction Manual

Model: IFILANISILENCER

Brand: iFi

1. Introduction

The iFi LAN iSilencer is a specialized device designed to filter out electrical noise from your Local Area Network (LAN) signal. This noise can interfere with the digital audio signal, degrading sound quality in high-resolution audio systems. By providing electrical isolation and advanced filtration, the LAN iSilencer ensures a cleaner, more accurate audio experience.

This manual provides essential information on how to set up, operate, and maintain your iFi LAN iSilencer, along with troubleshooting tips and product specifications.

2. Setup and Connection

The iFi LAN iSilencer is designed for simple plug-and-play installation. It should be connected in-line between your broadband router or network switch and your network audio streamer or other compatible device.

Connection Steps:

  1. Locate the Ethernet cable connecting your router/switch to your audio streamer.
  2. Disconnect the Ethernet cable from your audio streamer.
  3. Plug the iFi LAN iSilencer directly into the Ethernet port of your audio streamer.
  4. Connect the previously disconnected Ethernet cable from your router/switch into the other end of the iFi LAN iSilencer.

The device is bidirectional, meaning it can be connected in either orientation between your network source and your audio device. Ensure both ends are securely connected.

4. Maintenance

The iFi LAN iSilencer requires minimal maintenance. Keep the device clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid using liquid cleaners or solvents.

Ensure the RJ45 connectors are free from debris and securely seated to maintain optimal performance.

5. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your audio system after installing the iFi LAN iSilencer, consider the following:

No Audio or Network Connection:

  • Check all Ethernet cable connections to ensure they are firmly seated in both the iSilencer and your devices.
  • Verify that your router/switch and audio streamer are powered on and functioning correctly.
  • Temporarily remove the iSilencer and connect your devices directly to confirm if the issue persists.

Persistent Hum or Buzz:

While the iFi LAN iSilencer is designed to reduce electrical noise, other factors can contribute to hum or buzz in an audio system, such as ground loops or power supply issues. The following video provides general guidance on identifying and addressing such issues:

Video 2: Why do my speakers buzz? This video explains common causes of hum and buzz in audio systems and suggests solutions.

  • Ensure all audio components are plugged into the same power outlet or power strip to minimize ground loop potential.
  • Check for faulty power cables or adapters.
  • If the hum persists, consult a qualified electrician to check your electrical wiring and grounding.
