1. Introduction

The Baron S 490 PRO IR features a 460 sq. in. primary cooking surface, a durable cast aluminum oven, 4 stainless steel Dual-Tube burners, illuminated control panel lights, stainless steel 8mm rod cooking grids, stainless steel Flav-R-Wave cooking system, and electronic ignition. It also includes a powerful infrared side burner with a solid stainless steel 8mm rod cooking grid, stainless steel drop-down side shelves, and an enclosed black cabinet base.
2. Setup
2.1 Assembly
Assembly of your Broil King Baron S 490 Pro IR grill is required. Follow the detailed instructions provided in the separate assembly guide for proper construction. Ensure all components are securely fastened before proceeding.
2.2 Connecting the Liquid Propane Tank
Ensure the propane tank is securely placed within the enclosed cabinet base. Connect the liquid propane hose to the tank valve, ensuring a tight seal. Always check for gas leaks using a soapy water solution before initial use.

3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Ignition
Your grill features electronic ignition for quick and reliable startup. Turn the desired burner control knob to the HIGH position and press the electronic ignition button. The burner should ignite within a few seconds. If not, turn off the gas and wait 5 minutes before attempting again.
3.2 Temperature Control
The Linear-Flow valves with 180° Sensi-Touch Control knobs provide precise temperature management, allowing you to set your grill to the perfect temperature for searing, roasting, or slow cooking. Use the integrated thermometer on the lid for accurate temperature readings.

3.3 Cooking Grids and Flav-R-Wave System
The stainless steel 8mm rod cooking grids are designed for exceptional heat retention and searing power, locking in juices and flavor. Below the grids, the stainless steel Flav-R-Wave cooking system vaporizes drippings, infusing food with authentic barbecue flavor and providing superior heat distribution.

3.4 Rotisserie Cooking
For succulent roasted meats, utilize the premium rotisserie kit with the 15,000 BTU stainless steel rear rotisserie burner. The heavy-duty meat forks securely hold your food, ensuring even cooking as it rotates.

4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning the Cooking Grids
After each use, preheat the grill on high for 10-15 minutes to burn off any food residue. Then, use a stainless steel grill brush to clean the cooking grids. The rod design makes them easy to clean.
4.2 Cleaning the Cook Box and Grease Management System
Regularly clean the cast aluminum cook box and the grease management system. The redesigned grease tray has a larger capacity and is easier to remove for convenient cleanup. Ensure all drippings are properly disposed of.
4.3 General Care
The grill's stainless steel and powder-coated components are designed for rust resistance and durability. For prolonged life, consider using a grill cover when not in use, especially during harsh weather conditions.

5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Burner Not Igniting
- Check if the propane tank is open and has sufficient gas.
- Ensure the electronic ignition battery (if applicable) is not depleted.
- Verify that the burner ports are not clogged.
5.2 Uneven Heat Distribution
- Clean the Flav-R-Wave plates and cooking grids to remove any blockages.
- Ensure burners are properly seated and flames are even.
