1. Introduction

This instruction manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your Canon RF-S55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM telephoto zoom lens. 2. What's in the Box

3. Setup

3.1 Attaching the Lens

1. Ensure the camera is powered off.
2. Remove the rear lens cap and the camera body cap.
3. Align the red index mark on the lens with the red index mark on the camera body.
4. Rotate the lens clockwise until it clicks into place.

3.2 Detaching the Lens

1. Ensure the camera is powered off.
2. While pressing the lens release button on the camera body, rotate the lens counter-clockwise until it stops.
3. Remove the lens from the camera.
4. Attach the lens caps to the front and rear of the lens, and the body cap to the camera.

4. Operating the Lens

4.1 Zooming

The RF-S55-210mm lens features a telephoto zoom range from 55mm to 210mm. Rotate the zoom ring to adjust the focal length. The lens extends physically as you zoom towards the telephoto end (210mm).

4.2 Focusing

This lens incorporates a Stepping Motor (STM) for autofocus. The STM system provides smooth, quiet, and continuous focus adjustments, which is particularly beneficial for video recording with Canon's Movie Servo AF.

4.3 Optical Image Stabilization (IS)

The lens features Optical Image Stabilization to reduce blur caused by camera shake. It provides up to 4.5 equivalent stops of shake correction. When paired with EOS R series cameras featuring In-Body Image Stabilizer (IBIS), this can increase to up to 7.0 equivalent stops of shake correction. This feature is particularly useful in low-light conditions or when shooting at longer focal lengths.

4.4 Aperture and Image Quality

The lens has a 7-blade circular aperture, which contributes to producing aesthetically pleasing, soft backgrounds (bokeh). It also incorporates two UD (Ultra-low Dispersion) lens elements and one aspheric element to minimize chromatic aberration and ensure high resolution and contrast. Canon's Super Spectra Coating (SSC) is applied to reduce ghosting and flare.

4.5 Minimum Focusing Distance and Magnification

The lens offers a minimum focusing distance of approximately 2.4 ft. (0.73m) at the 210mm telephoto end and 3.2 ft. (1.0m) at 55mm. It provides a maximum magnification of 0.28x at 210mm, allowing for detailed close-up shots of smaller subjects.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning the Lens

• Use a blower brush to remove dust from the lens surface.
• For smudges or fingerprints, use a clean, soft lens cloth specifically designed for optical surfaces, along with a small amount of lens cleaning fluid.
• Never use abrasive materials or harsh chemicals.
