Setup and Installation

Follow these steps to install your drives into the enclosure:

  1. Prepare the Enclosure: Gently pull out the internal bracket from the aluminum housing.
  2. Install M.2 NVMe SSD: Locate the M.2 slot on the internal bracket. Insert your M.2 NVMe SSD (M-Key only) into the slot and secure it with the provided rubber grommet. For optimal heat dissipation, apply the thermal pad and metal heatsink to the M.2 SSD.
  3. Install 2.5"/3.5" SATA Drive: Align your 2.5" or 3.5" SATA HDD/SSD with the SATA connectors on the internal bracket. Ensure the connectors are facing the proper direction. Secure the drive to the bracket using the provided screws and screwdriver.
  4. Reassemble Enclosure: Carefully slide the internal bracket back into the aluminum housing until it clicks into place.
  5. Connect Power: Plug the 12V DC power supply into the DC port on the enclosure.
  6. Connect to Computer: Use either the USB-C to USB-C cable or the USB-C to USB-A cable to connect the enclosure to your computer's USB port.

Operating Instructions

Data Transfer (Read/Write Mode)

Once the enclosure is connected to your computer, the installed drives will appear as external storage devices. You can now drag and drop files to transfer data between your computer and the drives, or between the drives themselves. The enclosure supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 technology for transmission speeds up to 10Gbps. Ensure your computer's USB interface also supports USB 3.2 for optimal speeds.

Offline Clone Function

The enclosure supports two offline clone modes, allowing you to duplicate data between SATA and NVMe drives without a computer connection.

  1. Prepare Drives: Insert the source drive (the drive you want to copy from) and the target drive (the drive you want to copy to) into their respective slots. Ensure the target drive's capacity is equal to or larger than the source drive's capacity.
  2. Disconnect from Computer: Crucially, disconnect the enclosure from your computer before initiating an offline clone.
  3. Select Clone Direction: Use the clone conversion protocol button (a small switch near the Clone button) to select the desired cloning direction (SATA to NVMe or NVMe to SATA).
  4. Initiate Clone: Press and hold the 'Clone' button for 3-5 seconds until the LED indicators begin to flash. The 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% LEDs will illuminate sequentially, indicating cloning progress. All four indicators will remain on when cloning is complete.

Important Note: Always ensure the target disk has a larger or equal capacity to the source disk. Double-check the transfer direction before initiating the clone to prevent data loss.

Power Management

The enclosure requires a stable 12V DC power supply for operation, especially during massive data transmission or cloning. Always use the included power adapter. When finished using the enclosure, always safely remove the hardware from your computer's operating system before unplugging the device to prevent data corruption or loss.

Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your MAIWO enclosure and the installed drives, consider the following maintenance tips:

  • Keep Clean: Regularly wipe the exterior of the enclosure with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
  • Proper Ventilation: Although the aluminum housing is designed for heat dissipation, ensure the enclosure is placed in a well-ventilated area, especially during prolonged use or cloning operations. Avoid blocking the ventilation holes.
  • Safe Handling: Handle the enclosure and drives with care. Avoid dropping or subjecting them to strong impacts, which can damage internal components or the drives themselves.
  • Firm Connections: Ensure all cables (USB and power) are securely connected to prevent intermittent disconnections or data transfer issues.
  • Firm Drive Installation: Ensure drives are securely screwed into the internal bracket to prevent movement and ensure proper connection.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your MAIWO enclosure, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • Drive Not Recognized by Computer:
    • Ensure the power adapter is securely connected and the enclosure is powered on.
    • Verify that the USB data cable is firmly connected to both the enclosure and the computer. Try a different USB port or cable.
    • Check Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac) to see if the drive is detected but uninitialized or unformatted. If so, initialize and format the drive.
    • Confirm that the M.2 SSD is an NVMe (M-Key) type, as the enclosure does not support M.2 SATA drives.
    • Ensure the SATA drive is properly seated and secured within the internal bracket.
  • Slow Data Transfer Speeds:
    • Verify that your computer's USB port supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps). Older USB 2.0 or 3.0 ports will result in slower speeds.
    • Ensure you are using the provided high-speed USB cables.
    • Close any unnecessary applications running in the background on your computer that might be consuming system resources.
  • Offline Cloning Fails or is Extremely Slow:
    • Ensure the enclosure is completely disconnected from the computer before initiating an offline clone.
    • Verify that the target drive's capacity is equal to or larger than the source drive's capacity.
    • Double-check the clone direction switch (SATA to NVMe or NVMe to SATA) to ensure it matches your intended operation.
    • For large data transfers, ensure adequate ventilation to prevent overheating, which can slow down or halt the cloning process.
  • Overheating:
    • Ensure the enclosure is placed on a flat, stable surface with good airflow.
    • Verify that the thermal pad and heatsink are correctly applied to the M.2 NVMe SSD.
    • Avoid prolonged high-intensity operations in confined spaces.
