WARNING: Failure to follow these safety instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or personal injury.

  • Always disconnect power to the fixture before installing, removing, or servicing the bulb.

  • Do not operate the bulb if it is cracked or broken.
  • Ensure the bulb is securely seated in the fixture's sockets before restoring power.
  • This bulb is a fluorescent type and may contain small amounts of mercury. Dispose of used bulbs according to local regulations for hazardous waste.

4. Installation (Replacement Procedure)

Follow these steps to safely replace your existing American Ultraviolet SBL420T bulb with the Technical Precision AZ-DSFE-8.

  1. Disconnect Power: Locate the power switch or circuit breaker for the fixture and turn off the power completely. Confirm the power is off before proceeding.
  2. Allow Cooling: If the old bulb was recently in use, allow it to cool down completely before handling.
  3. Remove Old Bulb: Carefully grasp the old fluorescent tube near its ends. Gently twist the bulb approximately 90 degrees (a quarter turn) to disengage the pins from the lamp holders. Once disengaged, carefully lower and remove the old bulb from the fixture.
  4. Prepare New Bulb: Remove the new Technical Precision AZ-DSFE-8 bulb from its packaging. Handle the bulb by its ends or with a clean cloth/gloves to avoid leaving fingerprints on the glass.
  5. Insert New Bulb: Align the pins on both ends of the new bulb with the slots in the lamp holders. Insert the pins into the slots and then gently twist the bulb approximately 90 degrees until it locks securely into place. Ensure both ends are firmly seated.
  6. Restore Power: Once the new bulb is securely installed, restore power to the fixture.
  7. Test Operation: Turn on the light switch to confirm the new bulb is functioning correctly.

5. Operation

Once installed, the Technical Precision AZ-DSFE-8 fluorescent tube operates automatically when power is supplied to the fixture. Simply use the existing light switch or control mechanism of your American Ultraviolet system to turn the light on or off.

6. Maintenance

The Technical Precision AZ-DSFE-8 fluorescent tube requires minimal maintenance.

  • Cleaning: If the bulb accumulates dust or debris, ensure power is disconnected and the bulb is cool. Gently wipe the glass surface with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners directly on the bulb.
  • Replacement: The lifespan of fluorescent bulbs varies. Replace the bulb when it begins to flicker, dim significantly, or fails to illuminate. Refer to the original equipment manufacturer's recommendations for replacement schedules if applicable to your system.

7. Troubleshooting

If the bulb does not illuminate after installation, consider the following:

  • No Power: Ensure the power to the fixture is turned on at both the switch and the circuit breaker.
  • Improper Seating: Disconnect power and re-check that the bulb's pins are fully inserted and twisted securely into the lamp holders at both ends.
  • Damaged Bulb: Inspect the bulb for any visible cracks or damage. If damaged, replace it with a new one.
  • Fixture Issue: If multiple bulbs in the same fixture are not working, or if the new bulb still doesn't work after verifying the above, there may be an issue with the fixture's ballast or wiring. Consult a qualified electrician.
