1. Product Overview

The Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Smart Stages Puppy is a soft, cuddly musical plush toy designed to be your baby's first best friend. This interactive learning toy responds to touch with fun songs, sounds, and phrases, introducing over 100 first words, including parts of the body, colors, shapes, and more. With three Smart Stages levels, the learning content adapts and grows with your child, providing engaging educational play for infants aged 6 months to 3 years.

2. Setup

2.1 Battery Installation

The Smart Stages Puppy requires 3 AAA batteries (included). To install or replace batteries:

1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the puppy, usually secured with a fabric flap and Velcro closure.
2. Open the fabric flap to reveal the battery box.
3. Using a Phillips head screwdriver, loosen the screw on the battery compartment cover.
4. Remove the cover and insert 3 new AAA batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
5. Replace the battery compartment cover and tighten the screw.
6. Close the fabric flap.

Note: Always use fresh batteries and dispose of old batteries responsibly. Do not mix old and new batteries or different types of batteries.

3. Operating Instructions

The Smart Stages Puppy features multiple interactive points that activate songs, sounds, and phrases. The toy is designed for easy interaction by young children.

3.1 Activation Points

Press any of the following areas on the Puppy to activate its features:

• Hands: Press Puppy's left or right hand.
• Foot: Press Puppy's foot.
• Ear: Press Puppy's ear.
• Light-Up Heart: Press the heart on Puppy's chest. This heart also lights up during interactions.

The toy offers over 75 songs, sounds, tunes, and phrases to engage your child.

3.2 Smart Stages Levels

The Smart Stages technology allows you to change the learning content as your child grows. The Puppy features 3 distinct levels:

• Level 1 – Explore (6+ Months): Introduces first words, colors, the alphabet, and more through fun sounds and phrases.
• Level 2 – Encourage (12+ Months): Prompts your child with questions and simple directions, encouraging them to find colors or body parts.
• Level 3 – Pretend (18+ Months): Engages your child in imaginative play with songs and phrases that encourage role-playing and storytelling.

To switch between Smart Stages levels, locate the small switch near the battery compartment on the back of the toy. Slide the switch to select the desired learning level.

4. Maintenance and Care

4.1 Cleaning Instructions

To clean the Smart Stages Puppy, gently wipe the surface with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the toy in water, as this may damage the electronic components. Allow the toy to air dry completely before use.

4.2 Storage

When not in use for extended periods, it is recommended to remove the batteries to prevent leakage and damage to the toy. Store the toy in a clean, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 No Sound or Lights

• Check if the batteries are correctly installed with the proper polarity.
• Replace the batteries with fresh ones.
• Ensure the power switch (if present, usually near the battery compartment) is in the 'On' position.

5.2 Intermittent Operation

• Weak batteries may cause intermittent operation. Replace them with fresh batteries.
• Ensure the activation points are pressed firmly.
