AutoPot A-APWS-XL

AutoPot 1 Pot XL Module User Manual

Model: A-APWS-XL

1. Introduction

The AutoPot 1 Pot XL Module is a self-watering, gravity-fed hydroponic system designed for efficient plant cultivation. This system operates without the need for electricity, pumps, or timers, relying solely on gravity from a connected reservoir. It is suitable for various growing environments, including greenhouses, polytunnels, gardens, and indoor setups, accommodating a wide range of plants. The unique AQUAvalve5 technology ensures plants receive water and nutrients as needed, minimizing waste and promoting healthy growth.

2. Included Components

The AutoPot 1 Pot XL Module includes the following parts:

  • Pot
  • Tray
  • Lid
  • AQUAvalve5
  • Root Control Disc
  • 3/8" Tee Connector
  • 1/2"-3/8" Tee Connector

Note: A water reservoir (tank) is not included and must be purchased separately.

3. Setup Instructions

  1. Positioning: Place the pot tray on a level surface in your desired growing area.
  2. AQUAvalve5 Installation: Insert the AQUAvalve5 into the designated slot within the tray. Ensure it is securely seated.
  3. Root Control Disc: Place the root control disc at the bottom of the pot to prevent roots from entering the AQUAvalve5 area.
  4. Pot Placement: Position the pot onto the tray, ensuring it sits correctly over the AQUAvalve5.
  5. Media Preparation: Fill the pot with your chosen growing medium (e.g., coco coir, perlite, soil mix).
  6. Planting: Plant your desired plant into the prepared pot.
  7. Reservoir Connection: Connect the 3/8" or 1/2"-3/8" Tee Connector to the AQUAvalve5 tubing port. Connect this tubing to your external water reservoir.
  8. Reservoir Placement: Ensure the reservoir is positioned at a higher elevation than the 1 Pot XL Module to allow for gravity-fed water flow. A minimum height difference of 6 inches (15 cm) is recommended.
  9. Initial Filling: Fill the reservoir with water and your chosen liquid nutrient solution.
  10. Lid Placement: Place the lid on the pot to reduce evaporation and block light from the growing medium surface.

4. Operating the System

The AutoPot 1 Pot XL Module operates automatically once set up and connected to a filled reservoir.

  • AQUAvalve5 Function: The AQUAvalve5 controls the water flow to the pot. It fills the tray to a specific depth and then closes, allowing the plant to consume the water and nutrients. Once the tray is dry, the AQUAvalve5 reopens to refill it. This wet/dry cycle promotes optimal root health and nutrient uptake.
  • Nutrient Solution: Use a high-quality liquid nutrient solution suitable for your plants and growing medium. Always follow the nutrient manufacturer's instructions for mixing ratios.
  • Monitoring: Regularly check the water level in your reservoir and refill as necessary. Monitor plant health and adjust nutrient strength if required.
  • System Expansion: The 1 Pot XL Module can be easily expanded by linking additional modules to the same reservoir using appropriate connectors.

5. Maintenance

  • Reservoir Cleaning: Periodically clean the reservoir to prevent algae growth and nutrient buildup. This is typically recommended every 1-2 weeks, or with each nutrient change.
  • AQUAvalve5 Cleaning: Inspect the AQUAvalve5 regularly for any debris or blockages. Disassemble and clean if necessary to ensure proper function.
  • Tubing Inspection: Check all tubing for kinks, leaks, or blockages. Ensure a clear path for water flow from the reservoir to the modules.
  • Root Control Disc: Ensure the root control disc remains in place and is effective in preventing root intrusion into the valve area.
  • System Flush: If using mineral nutrients, consider flushing the system with plain water every few weeks to prevent salt buildup in the growing medium.

6. Troubleshooting
