Maintenance and Cleaning
Daily Cleaning
- Always unplug the coffee maker before cleaning and allow it to cool completely.
- Wash the glass carafe, permanent filter, and filter basket in warm, soapy water after each use. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Do not immerse the coffee maker base in water or any other liquid.
Descaling (Smart Clean Alert)
Mineral deposits (limescale) can build up in your coffee maker over time, affecting its performance and the taste of your coffee. The Smart Brew coffee maker features a smart system that alerts you when descaling is recommended. The "CLEAN" indicator light will flash after approximately 60 brewing cycles.

- Fill the water reservoir with a mixture of white vinegar and cold water. A common ratio is 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water. For example, fill to the 6-cup mark with vinegar and then to the 12-cup mark with water.
- Place the empty permanent filter and filter basket into position.
- Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
- Press the CLEAN button. The "CLEAN" indicator light will illuminate steadily, and the descaling cycle will begin.
- Allow the cycle to complete. The coffee maker will automatically shut off.
- Discard the vinegar solution from the carafe.
- Run 2-3 full cycles with fresh, cold water only to rinse out any remaining vinegar taste.
- The "CLEAN" indicator light will reset after the descaling process is complete.
