2. Safety Information

  • Weight Capacity: Do not exceed the maximum weight capacity per shelf (450 lbs evenly distributed with leveling feet) or the total maximum weight capacity (2250 lbs with leveling feet, 600 lbs with wheels). Overloading can cause the unit to collapse, leading to injury or damage.
  • Even Distribution: Always distribute weight evenly across shelves to maintain stability. Avoid placing heavy items on one side only.
  • Assembly: Ensure all components are securely fastened during assembly. Refer to the assembly instructions carefully.
  • Stable Surface: Place the shelving unit on a flat, stable, and level surface. If using leveling feet, adjust them to ensure the unit does not wobble.
  • Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the shelving unit during assembly. Do not allow children to climb on or play with the unit once assembled.
  • Moving the Unit: If the unit is equipped with wheels, ensure it is not overloaded before moving. Move slowly and carefully, especially on uneven surfaces. Lock casters when the unit is stationary.
  • Maintenance: Regularly inspect the unit for loose parts or damage. Tighten any loose connections immediately.

4. Assembly Instructions (Setup)

Assembly is designed to be straightforward. No tools are required for most steps, except for the provided wrench for casters/leveling feet.

  1. Attach Leveling Feet or Casters:

Decide whether you want a stationary unit with leveling feet or a mobile unit with wheels. Screw the four leveling feet or four rubber casters into the bottom of the lower poles. Use the provided wrench to tighten the casters if necessary.

  2. Assemble Poles:

Screw the upper poles into the lower poles using the connectors. Ensure they are securely fastened to form four complete vertical poles.

  3. Attach Plastic Clips:

Snap the two-part plastic clips around the grooves on the poles at your desired shelf height. Ensure both halves of the clip are securely locked together and that they are at the same height on all four poles for a level shelf. The shelves are adjustable in 1-inch increments.

  4. Place First Shelf:

Slide the first wire shelf down over the poles until it rests firmly on the plastic clips. Gently tap the corners of the shelf with a rubber mallet (not included) or your hand to ensure it is fully seated and level.

  5. Repeat for Remaining Shelves:

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the remaining four shelves, adjusting the height of each shelf as needed to accommodate your storage requirements.

  6. Install Clear Liners:

Once all shelves are in place, lay the clear liners on top of each wire shelf. These liners provide a smooth, flat surface, preventing smaller items from falling through the wire mesh.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Weight Capacity and Loading

The CAPHAUS shelving unit is designed for heavy-duty use. When using leveling feet, each shelf can hold up to 450 lbs when evenly distributed, with a total maximum capacity of 2250 lbs for the entire unit. If using wheels, the maximum capacity for the entire unit is 600 lbs. Always distribute weight evenly across the shelf surface to maintain stability and prevent damage.

5.2. Adjusting Shelf Height

To adjust the height of a shelf, first remove all items from that shelf. Then, carefully lift the shelf off the plastic clips. Remove the clips from the poles, reposition them at the desired height (ensuring they are level on all four poles), and then place the shelf back onto the clips.

5.3. Using Clear Liners

The included 0.6mm clear liners are designed to provide a smooth, flat surface on each wire shelf. This is particularly useful for storing smaller items like books, hardware parts, keys, or toys, preventing them from falling through the wire mesh. The BPA-free plastic liners are also waterproof, offering protection against minor spills.

5.4. Mobility (with Casters)

If you have installed the rubber casters, the shelving unit can be easily moved. Unlock the casters before moving and ensure the path is clear. When the unit is in its desired location, lock the casters to prevent accidental movement and ensure stability.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe down the wire shelves and poles with a soft, damp cloth and mild detergent. Avoid abrasive cleaners or harsh chemicals that could damage the finish. The clear liners can be easily removed and washed with soap and water.
  • Regular Inspection: Periodically check all connections, especially the plastic clips and pole connectors, to ensure they remain tight and secure. Re-tighten any loose leveling feet or casters.
  • Rust Prevention: While the shelving is made of high-quality steel, avoid prolonged exposure to excessive moisture to prevent rust.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1. Unit is Wobbly

  • Check Leveling Feet/Casters: Ensure all leveling feet are properly adjusted and making firm contact with the floor. If using casters, ensure they are all locked when stationary.
  • Verify Shelf Placement: Make sure all shelves are fully seated onto the plastic clips and that the clips are securely snapped around the poles at the same height.
  • Pole Connections: Ensure the upper and lower poles are tightly screwed together via the connectors.

7.2. Difficulty Assembling Shelves

  • Plastic Clips: Ensure the two halves of the plastic clips are fully snapped together around the pole grooves. They should fit snugly.
  • Shelf Orientation: Make sure the shelf is oriented correctly, with the larger holes facing downwards to fit over the clips.
  • Gentle Tapping: If a shelf is difficult to seat, gently tap the corners with a rubber mallet or the palm of your hand until it slides down and locks into place.
