1. Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the safe and effective use of the CHNADKS ADKS-1-H2S Hydrogen Sulfide Gas Detector. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the device and retain it for future reference. This device is designed for detecting hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas within a range of 0-100 ppm.
2. Safety Information
Important Safety Precautions:
- Always operate the detector in accordance with this manual.
- Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a highly toxic and flammable gas. Use extreme caution in environments where H2S may be present.
- The device is rated Ex ib IIB T3 Gb, indicating its explosion-proof capabilities. However, do not attempt to open or modify the device in hazardous environments.
- Ensure the device is fully charged before use to guarantee continuous operation.
- Regularly check the device for any physical damage. Do not use if damaged.
- Do not expose the device to extreme temperatures outside its operating range (-20 ℃ to 50 ℃) or humidity above 95% RH (non-condensing).
- Calibration should be performed periodically by qualified personnel to ensure accuracy.

4. Setup
4.1 Initial Charging
Before first use, fully charge the detector. Connect the provided USB charging cable to the device's charging port and to a standard USB power adapter (not included). The charging indicator will show the charging status. A full charge ensures optimal battery life for operation.
4.2 Power On/Off
- Power On: Press and hold the power button (usually marked with a circle and vertical line) for a few seconds until the LCD screen illuminates. The device will undergo a 30-second warm-up period. During this time, the sensor stabilizes, and readings may not be accurate.
- Power Off: Press and hold the power button again until the screen turns off. Confirm the shutdown if prompted.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Real-time Monitoring
Once powered on and after the warm-up period, the device will display the current H2S concentration in parts per million (ppm) on the LCD screen. The display updates in real-time.
5.2 Alarm System
The detector is equipped with a multi-level alarm system:
- Low Alarm: Activates when H2S concentration reaches 10 ppm. The device will emit an audible alert, flash lights, and vibrate.
- High Alarm: Activates when H2S concentration reaches 20 ppm. The device will emit a louder audible alert, flash lights more rapidly, and vibrate continuously.
- Responding to Alarms: If an alarm is triggered, immediately evacuate the area to a safe location with fresh air. Do not re-enter the hazardous area until the H2S concentration has returned to safe levels.
5.3 Navigating Menus (if applicable)
Use the 'Up' and 'Down' buttons (usually triangular arrows) to navigate through menu options, if available. The power button may also serve as a 'Select' or 'Enter' button in some modes. Refer to the on-screen prompts for specific functions like viewing alarm records or adjusting settings (advanced users only).
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Wipe the exterior of the detector with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or immerse the device in water. Ensure the gas inlet is free from obstructions.
6.2 Battery Care
- Recharge the battery when the low battery indicator appears on the display.
- Avoid completely draining the battery frequently to prolong its lifespan.
- If storing the device for an extended period, charge it to approximately 50% and recharge every few months.
6.3 Sensor Lifespan and Calibration
The H2S sensor has an estimated lifespan of 2 years. After this period, or if readings become inconsistent, the sensor may need replacement or professional calibration. Regular calibration is recommended to maintain accuracy and reliability.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not power on. | Low or depleted battery. | Charge the device using the USB cable. |
| Display shows "0 ppm" continuously in suspected H2S environment. | Sensor malfunction or device not calibrated. | Ensure the gas inlet is clear. If problem persists, contact support for calibration or service. |
| Alarm triggers frequently without apparent H2S presence. | False alarm due to interference or sensor sensitivity. | Move to a different location. If false alarms continue, the sensor may require calibration or service. |
| Screen is dim or unreadable. | Low battery or display settings. | Charge the device. Check if there are display brightness settings (refer to advanced menu if available). |
