1. Introduction

5. Setup

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off and Flashlight

Press the Power / Light Switch button to turn the device on or off. A short press will also toggle the LED flashlight function, useful for illuminating dark work areas.

6.2 Non-Contact AC Voltage Detection (NCV)

The NCV function allows for safe and convenient detection of AC voltage without direct contact. Simply bring the NCV sensor head (probe) close to the wire, outlet, or terminal. The device will indicate the presence of voltage through visual (LCD display) and audible (buzzer) alerts. The frequency of the buzzer increases with higher voltage or closer proximity to the source.

6.3 Live/Null Wire Identification

The XT89 can differentiate between live (fire) and null (neutral) wires. Insert the probe into the respective slot of an outlet or touch the wire. The display color and buzzer behavior will indicate the wire type:

• Live Wire: Display color turns red, rapid beeping sound.
• Null Wire: Display color turns green, gentle beep sound.

6.4 Wire Breakpoint Finder

To locate a breakpoint in a wire, slide the probe along the insulated wire. The device will indicate the presence of voltage up to the break. Where the voltage indication stops, the breakpoint is located.

6.5 Conduction/Positive Measurement

Use the Conduction/Positive Measurement Switch for specific tests such as continuity or identifying positive terminals. Refer to the display for readings (e.g., "P-C" for conduction, "HI" for high voltage, "--U" for no voltage).

7. Maintenance
