Ecoey GS811-A

Ecoey Carbon Monoxide Detector User Manual

Model: GS811-A

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the Ecoey Carbon Monoxide Detector. This device is designed to provide early warning of carbon monoxide (CO) presence, helping to protect you and your family from the dangers of this invisible, odorless, and tasteless gas. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and use, and retain it for future reference.

What is Carbon Monoxide?

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a highly poisonous gas produced by the incomplete combustion of fossil fuels. It is impossible to detect with human senses, making a reliable CO detector essential for safety. Common sources include faulty furnaces, gas appliances, fireplaces, and vehicle exhaust.

2. Product Overview

The Ecoey Carbon Monoxide Detector (Model GS811-A) features an advanced electrochemical sensor for accurate CO detection, a digital LCD display for real-time concentration readings, and a loud audible alarm. It is designed for ease of use and reliable performance.

Key Features:

  • Advanced Electrochemical CO Sensor: Detects CO levels from 23 ppm to 999 ppm with high accuracy.
  • Digital LCD Display: Provides real-time CO concentration readings and peak CO memory.
  • Audible and Visual Alarm: Emits an alarm sound greater than 85 dB and uses 3-colored LED indicators (green, yellow, red) for different states.
  • Replaceable Battery Operated: Powered by 3-year replaceable batteries (AA Alkaline).
  • 10-Year Lifespan: Designed for long-term reliability.
  • Compact and Portable Design: Suitable for various locations including homes, offices, hotels, and during travel.
  • Peak CO Concentration Memory: Records the highest CO level detected.

  • Electrochemical Sensor: Detects carbon monoxide.
  • Lucid LCD Screen: Displays CO levels and battery status.
  • Test/Silence Button: Used for testing the alarm and silencing it during an alarm event.
  • LED Indicators: Green (Power), Yellow (Fault), Red (Alarm).
  • Battery Compartment: Holds replaceable AA batteries.

3. Setup and Installation

Choosing a Location:

Install the CO detector in a central location on each level of your home, especially near sleeping areas. For optimal detection, place it:

  • At least 1.5 meters (5 feet) from fuel-burning appliances to avoid false alarms.
  • Away from direct sunlight, air vents, and areas with high humidity.
  • On a wall, approximately at eye level, or on a flat surface.

Battery Installation:

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the detector.
  2. Insert two AA Alkaline batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+ and -).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover securely.
  4. The detector will emit a short beep and the green LED will flash, indicating it is powered on.

Mounting the Detector:

The detector can be wall-mounted or placed freestanding.

  • Wall Mounting: Use the provided screws and wall plugs to secure the mounting plate to the wall. Attach the detector to the mounting plate by twisting it clockwise until it locks into place.
  • Freestanding: Simply place the detector on a stable, flat surface in the desired location.

4. Operating Instructions

Normal Operation:

During normal operation, the green LED indicator will flash periodically, and the LCD will display "0 PPM" or the current CO concentration if any is detected.

Alarm Conditions:

The detector will alarm when CO levels reach dangerous concentrations. The alarm thresholds are:

  • 30 PPM: No alarm before 120 minutes.
  • 50 PPM: Alarm between 60 to 90 minutes.
  • 100 PPM: Alarm between 10 to 40 minutes.
  • 300 PPM: Alarm within 3 minutes.

When an alarm occurs, the red LED will flash, the alarm will sound, and the LCD will display the current CO concentration.

What to do if the Alarm Sounds:

  1. Immediately move to fresh air outdoors or open all doors and windows to ventilate the area.
  2. Do a head count to check that all persons are accounted for.
  3. Do not re-enter the premises until the CO alarm has stopped and the area has been thoroughly ventilated.
  4. Call your emergency services, fire department, or gas supplier from a fresh air location.
  5. Do not use fuel-burning appliances until they have been inspected and cleared by a qualified technician.

Test/Silence Button:

  • Test: Press and hold the Test/Silence button for a few seconds to test the alarm function. The alarm will sound, and LEDs will flash.
  • Silence: During an alarm, press the Test/Silence button to temporarily silence the audible alarm for a short period (e.g., 5-10 minutes). The visual indicators will continue to operate.

Peak CO Concentration Memory:

The detector automatically records and saves the highest CO concentration detected since the last reset or power cycle. This feature is useful for identifying past CO events. To view the peak value, refer to the specific instructions in the full manual (not provided in this summary).

5. Maintenance

Regular Testing:

Test your CO detector weekly by pressing the Test/Silence button. The alarm should sound, and the LEDs should flash, confirming proper operation.

Cleaning:

Clean the detector regularly (e.g., monthly) using a soft, damp cloth. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents, as these can damage the sensor. Do not paint the detector.

Battery Replacement:

When the batteries are low, the detector will emit a low battery warning (e.g., a chirp and a yellow LED flash). Replace the batteries immediately with two new AA Alkaline batteries. Refer to the "Battery Installation" section for instructions.

The detector has a 10-year product lifespan. After 10 years from the date of manufacture, the unit should be replaced, even if it appears to be functioning correctly.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Alarm sounds without visible CO source.Actual CO presence, detector malfunction, or temporary high CO from a nearby source (e.g., car exhaust, grill).Evacuate and ventilate. Call emergency services. If false alarm, check placement and test again.
Detector chirps periodically.Low battery warning.Replace batteries immediately.
Yellow LED flashes, or "FAULT" displayed.Detector fault or end-of-life.Perform a test. If fault persists, replace the detector.
No display or power.Batteries incorrectly installed or depleted.Check battery polarity. Replace batteries.
